Jesse Minter is the new head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. The team has hired the Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator to replace John Harbaugh, who was fired earlier this month after 18 years when the Ravens missed the playoffs. Minter was a sought-after candidate and interviewed with several teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers. He spent two seasons with the Chargers and previously worked at the University of Michigan. Minter’s task will include helping two-time NFL MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson get back on track after an injury-filled 2025 season.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (AP) — Boden Kapke scored 19 points and his 3-pointer with 22 seconds left was the game-winning basket as Boston College left Pittsburgh in the ACC cellar with a 65-62 win. Roman Siulepa and Cameron Cohren each scored 13 points; Cohren grabbed 12 rebounds and Siulepa pulled down 11. Following Kapke’s 3, Cummings missed a deep 3 attempt with nine seconds left. NEW YORK (AP) — The active New York Mets have acquired ace pitcher Freddy Peralta and right-hander Tobias Myers from Milwaukee in a trade that sent two top prospects to the Brewers: pitcher Brandon Sproat and minor league infielder/outfielder Jett Williams. Peralta gives the new-look Mets a frontline starter after their rotation faltered in the second half of a hugely disappointing 2025 season. Peralta went 17-6 with a 2.70 ERA last year, when he led the National League in wins and finished fifth in Cy Young Award voting. He also earned his second All-Star selection. The 29-year-old right-hander is set to make $8 million this year and can become a free agent following the World Series.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Fernando Mendoza bulldozed his way into the end zone and Indiana bullied its way into the history books Monday night. The Hoosiers toppled Miami 27-21 to put the finishing touch on a rags-to-riches story, an undefeated season and the national title. The Heisman Trophy winner finished with 186 yards passing, but it was his tackle-breaking, sprawled-out 12-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-4 with 9:18 left that defined this game. Mendoza’s TD gave turnaround artist Curt Cignetti’s team a 10-point lead — barely enough breathing room to hold off a frenzied charge by the hard-hitting Hurricanes.

The defenseman ripped a one-timer to give the Penguins a 3-2 lead with 5:15 left in the second. Connor Dewar had a short-handed goal and an empty-netter for the Penguins, who also got goals from Justin Brazeau, Rickard Rakell and defenseman Parker Witherspoon. Sidney Crosby had two assists in his 1,400th career game, and Stuart Skinner made 20 saves. Ben Meyers, Ryan Lindgren and Eeli Tolvanen also scored for Seattle, which has lost four straight and six of seven.
