Gas-Line Fire Leads Bentworth To Cancel Classes

November 4, 2022 7:56 am

The Bentworth School District cancelled classes on Friday after receiving word of a fire in a gas line from a gas well sub-station along Johnston Road.  Superintendent Scott Martin tells WJPA News the fire was less than a quarter-of-a-mile from the district’s campuses.  He says the decision was made out of an abundance of caution.  Students already at the school or on their way were returned home.  There will be no online instruction, but Martin says afternoon Vo-Tech students will be transported and will have instruction.   Martin says no injuries resulted and the fire was put out quickly.  We have no word on what may have sparked the fire.
