The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents that there is a telephone scam making its way around the county and they are urging residents to be aware of it. Sheriff’s officials say the caller identifies him or herself as a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy and advises the resident that they have missed jury duty and are in contempt of court and can face fines. The caller then advises the resident that they can pay the fines with cash or gift cards. The sheriff’s office says they would never call residents in that manner and should anyone have any legitimate concerns over a jury summons, they should contact the court administrator or the jury management office.
