Charleroi Installs New Alert System For Residents

Charleroi Borough is now utilizing Savvy Citizen for direct, real-time communication with residents. Borough Manager Joe Manning says Savvy Citizen is a notification system that allows local governments to quickly and effectively communicate with their residents, and although Savvy Citizen can be utilized for emergency alerts, it also enables the borough to update citizens on events, helpful information, garbage delays, utility outages, community news, weather alerts and much more.  Manning says residents and neighbors of Charleroi Borough can choose to receive notifications with push alerts on their smart phones, or browse the app for a full listing of notifications, alerts and events. He says the system also allows residents to sign up for text messages or email messages. To sign up, Manning says residents can visit Google Play or the App Store and download Savvy Citizen for free, or visit www.SavvyCitizenApp.com.  Manning added that a feature of the program is its accuracy.  He says it is not interactive, unlike social media, where facts and figures can be misconstrued or even false.  He says with Savvy Citizen, the information is coming directly from the borough and can not be altered.
