
WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) — The death toll from weekend flooding in West Virginia has risen to seven. Authorities in Ohio County say search and recovery teams resumed their efforts early Tuesday morning and Swift Water Rescue crews will continue removing vehicles from Little and Big Wheeling Creeks. Emergency officials say the discovery of another victim, 71-year-old Connie Veronis of Moundsville has brought the death toll to seven. As much as 4 inches of rain fell in parts of Wheeling and Ohio County within 40 minutes on Saturday and more rain is expected through Thursday. Among the six dead was a 3-year-old child. To the southeast, heavy rains tore through the community of Fairmont on Sunday, ripping off the outer wall of an apartment building. Morrisey says at least 60 homes, 25 businesses and an estimated 30 roads were impacted by the floods.
