Demolition work on the Courthouse Square Building on Beau Street in Washington is expected to resume on Tuesday or Wednesday, now that the excavator has been removed from the hole. The work was halted when an excavator fell into a hole early in the project. Washington County Commission Chairman Nick Sherman tells WJPA that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has finished its investigation and did not issue a stop order so the work can resume once the machinery has been pulled from the hole. Crews worked through the day and into the evening and were able to hoist it out sooner than expected. Sherman tells WJPA, “We knew the construction company was going to be working on this through the day. I was glad to see that they could expedite the process and get the project back on track. God willing, this will b e our last surprise and this construction company can demo the Courthouse Square to make way for Washington County’s new public safety building.” Sherman says the cause of the accident was not released to them, as OSHA is working directly with the construction company.
