The Washington School District met virtually Tuesday afternoon for a special voting meeting to appoint an interim superintendent. The board had a seven person quorum and voted unanimously to name George Lammay to the position. Lammay retired from the Bentworth School District in June of 2021 after nearly 14 years as high school principal and assistant superintendent. Lammay was appointed acting superintendent of the Belle Vernon Area School District in July only to resign a week later indicating he needed to be cognizant of his health. His appointment comes after the resignation of current superintendent Dr. James Konrad, who took a superintendent position with the Pleasant Valley School District in eastern Pennsylvania. Mr. Lammay will assume his position on December 1.
