A massive explosion and fire has rocked a port in southern Iran purportedly linked to a shipment of a chemical ingredient used to make missile propellant. A disaster official told Iranian state media that the blast on Saturday killed five people and injured more than 700 others. The blast happened as Iran and the United States met in Oman for the third round of negotiations over Tehran’s rapidly advancing nuclear program. Authorities in Iran for hours offered no clear explanation for what caused the blast at the Shahid Rajaei port. But a private security firm says it took in missile fuel shipment in March.
