State Police are investigating after an unidentified North Franklin Township firefighter was injured when they were struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon. Washington County 9-1-1 dispatchers tell WJPA News it happened around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Route 40 and Weirich Avenue. According to dispatchers, firefighters were returning from a separate call when they saw a tractor trailer hung up at the intersection and stopped to assist. The firefighter was struck and the vehicle, described as a white KIA, fled the scene. The firefighter reportedly suffered a wrist and rib injury and was transported to UPMC Washington Hospital. There is no word on their condition. State Police shut down Route 40 while they investigated. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police.
