Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf is calling for action on his proposal to send Pennsylvania residents checks for up to $2000. He did this from the steps of the Wesley Union A.M.E. Zion Church in Harrisburg accompanied by Representative Patty Kim. He is asking the Republican led legislature to act on his $500 million PA Opportunity Program that will be funded from the federal American Rescue Plan Act. Under Wolf’s plan households earning $80,000 or less would qualify for checks of up to $2000 to use for whatever purpose they need. This proposal is part of a $1.7 billion dollar plan that Wolf laid out in February that would guide the usage of the $2 billion dollars Pennsylvania received from the American Rescue Plan Act. Both the state house and senate have been slow to act on Wolf’s plan. If the funds are not used, they will be sent back to the federal government by December 31, 2024.
