Grand Canyon Flash Flood Leaves 1 Dead

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — One person has died and about 15 people are missing or unaccounted for after a major flash flood at the Grand Canyon. The National Park Service said Sunday night that the body of a 46-year-old man was recovered near Crystal Rapids along the Colorado River. The flooding forced the evacuation of dozens of people and knocked out the sole water pipeline serving tourists and residents. Starting Monday, tourists won’t be able to stay overnight at lodges and hotels in the park because of a limited water supply. Year-round residents are being asked to conserve water. The park service says the flooding Saturday also swept large boulders and metal structures into the Colorado River. More rain was possible Monday.
