NUUK, Greenland (AP) — Greenland’s party leaders have rejected President Donald Trump’s calls for the U.S. to take control of the island. They insist that Greenland’s future must be decided by its people. Trump said on Friday he wants to acquire Greenland, a semiautonomous region of Denmark, to prevent Russia or China from taking it. He mentioned doing it “the easy way” or “the hard way” without explaining further. The White House is considering options, including military force. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned that an American takeover could end NATO. Officials from Denmark, Greenland, and the U.S. met Thursday to discuss the issue.
