Hurricane Polo Bears Down On Mexico

PUERTO SAN CARLOS, Mexico (AP) — Wind is whipping Mexico’s northern Pacific coast and water has started to flood some streets as Hurricane Polo bears down on Baja California Sur. The hurricane Monday is threatening flash floods and mudslides. In the fishing town of Puerto San Carlos, high tides and pounding waves from Polo were breaching sea barriers as residents worried for their homes in the mostly empty town. Polo is a Category 3 storm with top sustained winds of 115 mph. It is expected to hit the Mexican mainland after affecting Baja California Sur. Meanwhile, Hurricane Nolo could still bring torrential rain to parts of Hawaii.
