Iran Forging New Ring Of Proxies To Threaten US Allies

CAIRO (AP) — Regional officials tell The Associated Press that Yemen’s Houthi rebels helped Iraqi militias launch drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities in July. The United States and Saudi Arabia responded to those attacks with rare joint airstrikes on the Iraqi militias. The Houthis and the Iraqi militias have stepped up coordination in recent years to support other Iranian allies in the wars that followed Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack out of Gaza. Iran can now use them to threaten Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states as it seeks to drive up the costs of the war launched by the U.S. and Israel in February.
