Israel Retaliates After Syria Fires Rockets

JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military says three more rockets have been launched from Syria toward Israel, raising to six the number of missiles fired within hours in a rare attack from Israel’s northeastern neighbor. Israel says it is retaliating with artillery fire and airstrikes on targets in Syria. The military says two of the three rockets fired early Sunday crossed into Israel. In the first attack on Saturday, one rocket landed in a field in the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights. The rocket launches come just a day after Israeli warplanes struck alleged Palestinian militant targets in both Lebanon and the Gaza Strip following an unusual burst of rocket fire from southern Lebanon. Tensions are also running high in the contested capital of Jerusalem.
