Mayor Of East Washington Dies

WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Borough of East Washington announced the passing of Mayor Matthew Boice after a medical emergency on Friday. Boice resided in the borough for 34 years, serving on council as the borough president, and sworn in as mayor in 2022. A retired high school teacher,  officials say Boice was involved with numerous organizations. He was the Director of Music and Organist at First Presbyterian Church in Washington. He volunteered as the coach of a girls softball team and with the Washington High School Band. Boice was very active in the Masonic Fraternities and the Shriners raising money to benefit Muscular Dystrophy, The Eye Foundation, Special Olympics, and Shriners Hospitals for Children. Officials say he was a prominent member of the borough and his death is a tragic loss to the community. (Photo: Borough of East Washington)
