Residents of Muse and business owners in the Cecil Township area are supporting Cecil Township first responders with devices that could save a life if someone is choking. Muse resident A. C. Rowland is one of the integral people involved in the fund raising that allowed her to acquire approximately two dozen LifeVac anti choking devices. The non-invasive, plunger like device helps remove blockages when patients are choking and traditional methods like the Heimlich Maneuver are unsuccessful. The device is placed over the choking person’s mouth and nose and with one quick stroke, the object is removed. LifeVac is used on special needs patients like infants, the elderly, pregnant women and especially those confined to wheelchairs. Rowland says that she worked with the company to arrange a purchase price from $80 each to $58 each and even have them include a lifetime replacement guarantee to assure the device is only used once. Rowland learned about the device on a trip to Ireland. She did research and was able to raise funds from residents and businesses during the Muse, PA Fun Days event.
