Extra Security Planned For Saturday Rally

Protests are planned for some 1,800 communities across the country on Saturday, June 14th, the same day President Donald Trump holds a military parade in Washington D.C. to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the U.S. Army.  It also just happens to fall on his 79th birthday. In conjunction with that parade, which is expected to draw more than 200,000 spectators and cost millions of dollars, organizers of “No Kings Day” rallies are planning their protests.  More than fifty are planned across the state of Pennsylvania, including one here in Washington, Pittsburgh and Greensburg.  The Washington rally will be held in front of the Washington County Courthouse from eleven a.m. until 12:30 p.m.  Organizers say they named these protests, “No Kings Day,” to oppose what they see as Donald Trump’s power grab.  Washington Mayor JoJo Burgess tells WJPA that he’s hoping the rally is peaceful, but, just in case, there will be extra security on hand and barriers will be put up.  In addition to the rally, Burgess says a Juneteenth celebration is being held under the community pavilion on South Main Street at the same time.
