Alabama Could Have 1st Remote Air Traffic Control

SELMA, Ala. (AP) – A newspaper is reporting that a public airport in Alabama could be home to the first remote air traffic control center in the United States. Advanced ATC Inc. is an air traffic control academy based in Valdosta, Georgia. The Selma Times-Journal quotes the company as saying Thursday that it will invest about $4.7 million at Craig Air Field in Dallas County, southeast of Selma. The remote tower uses cameras, real-time video and other features, allowing air traffic controllers to remotely accomplish the duties they previously had to carry out in a traditional control tower. The company’s five-year plan seeks to bring nearly 120 jobs to Selma.

Man Attacks Hospital Workers In L.A.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Authorities say a man walked into a Los Angeles emergency ward, stabbed a doctor and two nurses, then holed up for four hours before a SWAT team took him into custody. Los Angeles police say the man walked into Encino Hospital Medical Center shortly before 4 p.m. Friday, seeking treatment for anxiety, then stabbed the medical staff. Authorities say one victim underwent surgery and all three are in stable condition. Police say the man was confined to a room in the hospital as officers tried to talk to him. He was finally captured and taken to another hospital for treatment of self-inflicted injuries.

Former Trade Adviser Peter Navarro Indicted

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Justice Department has declined to charge former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and another aide to former President Donald Trump, Dan Scavino, for contempt of Congress for their defiance of subpoenas in the Jan. 6 congressional investigation. That’s according to a person familiar with a letter sent by the Justice Department to a lawyer for the House of Representatives on Friday. The action came the same day the Justice Department said a grand jury had indicted Peter Navarro, a trade adviser in the Trump White House, for his refusal to cooperate with the committee’s investigation. The New York Times first reported the decision not to prosecute Meadows and Scavino.

One Killed In Navy Jet Accident

TRONA, Calif. (AP) – The Navy says one of its fighter jets has crashed in the Southern California desert, killing the pilot. The Navy says an F/A-18E Super Hornet based at Naval Air Station Lemoore went down at about 2:30 p.m. Friday in the area of Trona, an unincorporated Mojave Desert community in San Bernardino County. Nobody on the ground was hurt. The pilot’s identity and details of the crash weren’t immediately released. Last October, another Navy Super Hornet went down during a training mission in Death Valley National Park but the pilot safely ejected. However, a 2019 Super Hornet crash in the park killed the pilot and injured seven people on the ground.

Tropical Storm Warning For Florida

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) – Much of the Florida peninsula, along with parts of Cuba and the Bahamas, are under a tropical storm warning as a system that battered Mexico moves through the Gulf of Mexico, killing at least two in Cuba and bringing threats of heavy rain and wind for the weekend. The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Friday data from a hurricane hunter plane indicate the system’s maximum sustained winds increased overnight and was expected to strengthen later Friday. The storm, once known as Agatha in the Pacific Ocean, will be known as Alex in the Atlantic Ocean basin.

Two Dead In Fayette County Murder-Suicide

HOPWOOD, Pa. — Two people are dead following an apparent murder-suicide in Fayette County. State Police were called Friday to Hopwood around 3 p.m. on Atlas Road. Police say the victim was outside George R. Smalley Company when he was shot multiple times. That victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officials later found the suspect dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The relationship between the victim and the suspect is not known at this time. A motive is also not clear at this time.  Police said there is no threat to the public. Both the victim and the suspect have not been identified. 

Two Accidents On I-70 Back Up Traffic For Hours Friday

TAYLORSTOWN, Pa. — Two separate tractor-trailer accidents caused major delays for hours Friday on Interstate 70 West in Washington County. The first accident reportedly around 1:00 p.m. involving a twin trailer big rig that rolled onto its side (pictured.) There is no word on what caused that accident, but cleanup did take hours according to reports. The second accident reportedly involved three tractor trailers and turned into a hazmat situation around 7:30 p.m. near the Taylorstown interchange. This accident was a rear end collision that sent hazardous liquids over the westbound lanes and one of the trucks involved was reportedly on fire. No one was seriously hurt in this accident. Fire Damages Fracking Equipment At Eighty-Four Company

Several fire departments were called out Friday afternoon just after one o’clock, for reports of a fire at the former FTS International site on Route 519 in Eighty Four. North Strabane Assistant Fire Chief Rich Yosi tells WJPA News that the fire, at what is now ProFrac, was contained to multiple pieces of fracking equipment and they were able to bring the blaze under control in about an hour. North Strabane was assisted by the Peters Township Fire Department, Washington County Public Safety, and Ambulance and Chair EMS on scene. Canonsburg and Bentleyville Fire Departments were on standby for the incident. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation. U.S. Added 390K Jobs In May

WASHINGTON (AP) – U.S. employers added a healthy 390,000 jobs last month, extending a streak of solid hiring that has bolstered an economy under pressure from high inflation and interest rates. Last month’s gain reflects a still-healthy job market despite concerns that the economy will weaken in the coming months as the Federal Reserve steadily raises rates to fight inflation. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.6%, the Labor Department said Friday.

Fetterman Suffering From Cardiomyopathy

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – The cardiologist for John Fetterman, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania who is recovering from a stroke, has disclosed that Fetterman also has cardiomyopathy. The acknowledgment Friday was the first public comment by a doctor for Fetterman since the candidate first took to social media on May 15 to disclose the stroke. In a statement released through the campaign, Fetterman’s cardiologist, Dr. Ramesh Chandra, says Fetterman will be fine if he eats healthy foods, takes prescribed medication and exercises. The 52-year-old Fetterman easily won the Democratic nomination while in the hospital, just hours after undergoing surgery to implant a pacemaker with a defibrillator.
