September 21, 2020 5:27 pm

NEW YORK (AP) – The nation’s top public health agency has stirred confusion, by posting – and then taking down – an apparent change in its position on how easily the coronavirus can spread through the air. Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say the respiratory virus spreads primarily through small airborne droplets. CDC officials have also acknowledged growing evidence that the virus can also be carried on smaller, aerosolized particles that spread over a wider area. The agency’s position appeared to have changed when it posted new detail on aerosolized particles on Friday, but that language was removed on Monday.

Amy Coney Barrett is hailed by religious conservatives and others on the right as an ideological heir to the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Liberals say Barrett’s legal views are too influenced by her Catholic beliefs and fear she could seek to scale back abortion rights.

Trump said he thought his Democratic political foes were behind the report, including Rep. Adam Schiff, who led the House impeachment probe, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer.

Fight Continues Over State Voting Law

September 21, 2020 4:11 am

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – The Nov. 3 presidential contest will test Pennsylvania’s ability to handle a massive mail-in vote and, while its high court settled several partisan points of dispute over how to update the state’s election law, counties remain unprepared in several important ways. Plus, the legal challenges are not necessarily over. Meanwhile, lawmakers and election officials continue to warn that the conditions are ripe for a presidential election result to be left hanging in limbo on a drawn-out vote count in Pennsylvania, a premier battleground state where the result could be very close. Some also warn that huge numbers of mail-in votes could be invalidated, unless the law is changed.
