Another member of the Pagans Motorcycle club has been sentenced in connection with a brutal beating at the Charleroi Slovak club earlier this year. 57 year old Brian Keruskin pleaded no contest to a charge of conspiracy to engage in aggravated assault. According to reports, Keruskin was sentenced to two-and-a-half to eight years in state prison. Prosecutors maintain that he encouraged an officer at the club to erase surveillance video that showed him allow several Pagan members into the club to assault 53 year old Troy Harris in April. A dozen people were charged in connection with the assault.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Impeachment hearings for President Donald Trump come at the very time that Capitol Hill usually tends to its mound of unfinished business. The hearings and the possibility of impeachment and a trial create yet another layer of complications for senior lawmakers pressing for an agreement on $1.4 trillion worth of federal agency budgets or finalizing a rewrite of the North American trade rules. Yet the new few weeks could still be the last, best opportunity for lawmakers to wrap up their work. In the near term, the sole piece of must-do business is to pass a stopgap spending bill to avert a government shutdown. Avoiding a shutdown shouldn’t be a problem, at least for now, with passage of a temporary, governmentwide spending bill to perhaps Dec. 20 virtually assured.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Protections for 660,000 immigrants are on the line at the Supreme Court. The justices are hearing arguments Tuesday on the Trump administration’s bid to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which shields immigrants brought to the U.S. as children from deportation and allows them to work in the United States legally. The program was begun under President Barack Obama. The Trump administration announced in September 2017 that it would end DACA protections, but lower federal courts have stepped in to keep the program alive.
Now it’s up to the Supreme Court to say whether the way the administration has gone about trying to wind down DACA complies with federal law. A decision is expected by June 2020, amid the presidential election campaign.

DALLAS (AP) – Dean Foods is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and may sell the company off to the Dairy Farmers of America. The company said Tuesday that it needs to address debt and unfunded pension obligations while it puts the company up for sale. Dean Foods Co. has lost money in eight of its last 10 quarters and in seven of its last eight quarters it’s posted declining sales. The company has received a commitment of about $850 million in debtor-in-possession financing from certain existing lenders. Dean Foods, which named Eric Berigause as its new CEO in July, said its business is operating normally while it reorganizes.

LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) – Bolivia is facing its worst unrest in decades amid a political vacuum, while Evo Morales, who transformed the Andean nation as its first indigenous president, has fled the country following weeks of violent protests. Morales flew out on a Mexican government plane late Monday hours after being granted asylum as his supporters and foes fought on the streets of the capital while an opposition leader tearfully laid out a possible path toward new elections in the wake of the president’s resignation. Morales stepped down Sunday following weeks of widespread protests fed by allegations of electoral fraud in the Oct. 20 presidential election that he claimed to have won. Resignations by every other constitutionally designated successor have left it unclear who will take his place and how.

Aesthetics and safety were two topics of concern in Peters Township at Monday’s Council Meeting. One item addressed was the removal of trees on Snyder Road. Residents were concerned that the township’s wishes to clear nearly 50 trees that were in the township’s right of way would severely affect the wooded nature of their street. The township met with the residents and explained that the need to perform this maintenance is necessary from the standpoint of safety and that the only trees being removed are those that are dead, diseased or are in danger of restricting the free flow of traffic. Once residents understood the township’s needs, no objections were registered. Council also authorized staff to contract with the Cohen Law Group. This organization will assist the township in regulating the upcoming 5G improvements in wireless technology. When 5G becomes available, it will be necessary for wireless companies to install many 30 foot utility poles in the right of way. Many township developments have underground utilities and this technology will cause residents to see utility poles in their neighborhoods where they did not exist before. The purpose of this hire is to find a way to manage the installation of the poles and best maintain the beauty of the neighborhood. Council cannot ban the installation as the utility poles fall under the purview of the Public Utilities Commission and the Federal Communications Commission.

Snow showers will continue off and on, with snow squalls possible. Most areas around Pittsburgh will see around 1″ to 2″ of snow, with more north and east of the city. It’s the cold that will make the headlines though-with wind chills in the teens for your Wednesday morning commute, and high temperatures struggling to get above freezing through the day. Record low temperatures are possible, dropping to around 15º by Wednesday morning.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WPXI) – A man pulled out a gun and robbed three elderly women who were walking from the Grove City Premium Outlets in Mercer County Sunday, Pennsylvania State Police said. The women had been shopping at the outlet mall and were walking shortly after 7 p.m. in an alleyway, Westside Square Drive, to the Marriott Hotel when the man walked up to them, according to police. When the man pulled out the handgun, he ordered the women to hand over their bags. Police said he then forcefully took several bags and purses before taking off. The man ran toward the outlet mall’s parking lot after the robbery. The man is described as white and between 5 feet, 6 inches and 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a stocky build. He was wearing a black knit pullover cap and dark clothing. Investigators said the man might have been a passenger in a dark-colored, possibly black, car, which the women saw in the mall’s parking lot near the entrance to the alleyway. CHICAGO (AP) – A winter storm has left about 3.4 inches of snow on the ground at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport but that was enough to cancel nearly 900 flights and cause flights to be delayed an average of almost an hour and a half. Across town, at Midway International Airport, another 97 flights have been canceled. Icy conditions also caused a plane to slide off a runway at O’Hare as it came in to land Monday morning. None of the 38 passengers or three crew members on the flight from Greensboro, North Carolina, was injured. The snow all but stopped by mid-afternoon. Now the National Weather Service expects temperatures that were already unseasonably low to plummet. The forecast high of 21 degrees (-6 Celsius) at the airport on Tuesday would be a full seven degrees lower than the previous record set for Nov. 12. (Photo: CNN)

KANAWHA CITY, W.Va. (AP) – The last two remaining Kmart locations in West Virginia are set to close by early next year as the retailer shutters about 100 stores nationwide. The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports the Kanawha City Kmart in Charleston will close in February following the closure of the Elkview Kmart in December. The store’s parent company, Transformco, cited a “difficult retail environment” in a statement released Thursday announcing 96 Kmart and Sears stores would go out of business by early 2020. The Kanawha City location was named on the list. Transformco announced the Elkview closure in August. Another Charleston Kmart closed at the beginning of 2019. Sears’ former CEO purchased its assets out of bankruptcy in February and moved the company under the new name. Transformco will operate 182 stores after the closures.
