TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — The spokesman for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry says an agreement has been reached to extend the Israel-Hamas truce for another two days. The announcement came on the final day of an original four-day truce between the warring sides. A fourth exchange of militant-held hostages for Palestinians imprisoned by Israel is planned for later in the day. Israel has said it would extend the cease-fire by one day for every 10 additional hostages released. The cease-fire came into effect Friday after several weeks of indirect negotiations mediated by the United States, Qatar and Egypt.

WASHINGTON (AP) – U.S. health officials have finalized a rule change that broadens availability of abortion pills to many more pharmacies, including large chains and mail-order companies. The update Tuesday by the Food and Drug Administration formally removes a long-standing requirement that the medicine be picked up in person. The Biden administration partially implemented the change last year. Tuesday’s FDA action formally updates the drug’s labeling to allow prescribing via any pharmacy that undergoes a certification process. Women can then receive the pills either in person or through the mail. Still, the FDA rule change’s impact has been blunted by numerous state laws limiting access to the pills.

PITTSBURGH (WPXI) — Russia is the world’s third largest oil and gas supplier. With the country on the verge of, or having already, invaded Ukraine, the fear is what will happen with the supply in the U.S. Jim Garrity with Pittsburgh AAA said we could see prices we’ve never seen before. “Knowing that the national average could very easily be at $4.00 a gallon and Pennsylvania’s average tends to trend 15 to 20% more expensive, we could potentially see prices that we’ve never seen in Pennsylvania,” he said. Oil is now hitting its highest level since 2014.

NEW YORK (AP) – A vicious attack on an Asian American woman near New York City’s Times Square is drawing widespread condemnation and raising alarms about the failure of bystanders to intervene amid a rash of anti-Asian violence across the U.S. An assailant was seen on surveillance video Monday kicking the 65-year-old woman in the stomach, knocking her to the ground and stomping on her face as police say he shouted anti-Asian slurs at her. The attack happened outside an apartment building two blocks from Times Square, a bustling, heavily policed section of midtown Manhattan. Two workers who appeared to be security guards were seen on surveillance video witnessing the attack but failing to come to the woman’s aid. Their union says they called for help immediately.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Tens of thousands of protesters have again taken to the streets across America. Peaceful demonstrations Sunday against police killings of black people have been overshadowed by unrest that quickly ravaged cities from Philadelphia to Los Angeles. A truck driver drove into demonstrators in Minneapolis nearly a week after George Floyd pleaded with an officer pressing a knee into his neck that he could not breathe. Outside the White House, police fired tear gas and stun grenades into a crowd who lit fire in a street. Thieves in more than 20 California cities smashed into businesses and ran off with sneakers, cellphones and TVs.

WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) – A closing West Virginia hospital owes the city of Wheeling more than $415,000. According to The Intelligencer , Wheeling City Manager Robert Herron says Ohio Valley Medical Center owes almost $47,900 for fire service and $368,000 in parking fees to subsidize use of a city garage. Herron said city officials thought they had negotiated a payment plan. Then the hospital announced it will close within three months. The hospital’s CEO didn’t respond to the newspaper’s request for comment. Gov. Jim Justice says he’s asked his administration to see what it can do to prevent the closure. The East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry, Ohio is planned for closure in the same timeframe. The hospitals say they’ve lost $37 million in the last two years, citing declining volume and reimbursements.

Obesity is high and holding steady in the U.S. About 4 in 10 Americans have obesity overall and about 1 in 10 have severe obesity. That’s according to new government research. The overall rate has not changed significantly in the past decade, even as the rate of severe obesity is increasing. That means it’s too soon to know whether new treatments for obesity can ease the epidemic of the chronic disease linked to dozens of health problems. Experts say preventing obesity in the first place is key, starting in early childhood.

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — (WPXI) – TSA stopped a man from Gibsonia trying to bring a loaded gun through a checkpoint at the Pittsburgh International Airport on Saturday. The gun was loaded with seven bullets and had one in the chamber. 40 guns have been found at the airport’s checkpoints so far this year. The man will face a fine that can run up to $15,000. “There is no excuse for bringing a gun to the checkpoint,” said Karen Keys-Turner, TSA’s Federal Security Director for the airport. “Responsible gun owners do not bring their guns to a checkpoint. This was irresponsible on the part of this traveler during one of the busiest holiday travel periods of the year. Incidents such as this are dangerous, they disrupt our security screening operations and cause delays for other law-abiding travelers who just want to get on their flight to travel during the Thanksgiving holiday period TSA reminds travelers that guns are only allowed in checked bags and says they can not be loaded. KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – The Russian military says unauthorized use of cell phones by Russian soldiers led to a deadly Ukrainian rocket attack on the facility where they were stationed. It raised the death toll from the weekend attack to 89. Gen. Lt. Sergei Sevryukov said in a statement late Tuesday that phone signals allowed Kyiv’s forces to “determine the coordinates of the location of military personnel” and launch a strike. The weekend attack was one of the deadliest on the Kremlin’s forces since the start of the war over 10 months ago. It marked yet another setback for the Kremlin’s bogged-down war effort in Ukraine that has been undermined by a successful Ukrainian counteroffensive.

North Strabane Township Supervisors tabled any action related to the expansion of the Greenwood Village expansion plan. Supervisors held a public hearing over the course of two nights and ordered traffic studies so that they could determine whether to grant the conditional use application that would add 27 units on a five acre parcel. Developers would like to build this expansion to allow residents a second public access to the development. Supervisors tabled the measure in order to consider all testimony from residents from those public hearing nights. Township resident Vincent Ley is questioning the legality of the application put forth by the developer Greenwood Village, LP. He also feels that traffic studies done were not as extensive as they could have been. Supervisors now have 45 days from the closure of the public hearing on February 15 to grant or deny the conditional use application.
