WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Donald Trump has spoken to Jewish donors and an organization gathered to focus on efforts to fight antisemitism. Trump’s appearances Thursday came on the same day that an explosive CNN report detailed how one of his allies running for North Carolina governor made a series of racial and sexual comments on a website where he also referred to himself as a “black NAZI.” Trump said he will be “the best friend Jewish Americans have ever had in the White House.” He did not comment on the allegations against Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel will continue its war against Hamas, even if a temporary cease-fire is reached with the Islamic militant group. In comments Tuesday ahead of an expected Cabinet vote on a cease-fire proposal, Netanyahu vowed to press ahead, saying that “We are at war, and we will continue the war” and that Israel “will continue until we achieve all our goals.” The Cabinet was expected to vote on a plan that would halt Israel’s offensive in Gaza for several days in exchange for the release of about 50 of the 240 hostages held by Hamas. Israel has vowed to continue the war until it destroys Hamas’ military capabilities and returns all hostages.

DALLAS (AP) – Southwest Airlines is returning to a relatively normal flight schedule as the focus shifts to making things right with what could be well more than a million passengers who missed family connections or flights home during the holidays, and many of whom are still missing luggage. The Dallas carrier, which had canceled thousands of flights every day this week after a winter storm last weekend, reported less than 40 cancellations early Friday. While that was still more than United, American and Delta combined, it is a step back from one of the most chaotic weeks in aviation history for a single airline. Federal regulators have vowed a rigorous review of what happened at Southwest.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – The U.S. has issued some of its starkest, most detailed warnings yet about how a Russian invasion of Ukraine might unfold. Its Western allies are on high alert for any attempts by the Kremlin to create a false pretext for a new war in Europe. U.S. President Joe Biden sounded unusually dire Thursday. He warned that Washington saw no signs of a promised Russian withdrawal – but instead saw more troops moving toward the border with Ukraine. He said Moscow could invade within days. Western fears focus on an estimated 150,000 Russian troops posted around Ukraine’s borders. The Kremlin insists it has no plans to invade, but it has long considered Ukraine part of its sphere of influence.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Treasury Department says it has sent out another 37 million economic impact payments over the past week, bringing the total disbursed in the past two weeks to $325 billion. The second batch of payments sent out this week followed an initial 90 million payments made in the week after President Joe Biden signed the $1.9 trillion COVID relief measure on March 11. In its announcement Wednesday, Treasury said the plan was to keep rolling out payments in batches over the coming weeks. Like the first round of payments, this latest group included direct deposits as well as paper checks and debit cards mailed to households.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The White House says President Donald Trump followed the law when he fired multiple inspectors general in the last two months, but the administration is offering no new details about why they were let go. A White House letter issued Tuesday in response to concerns from Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley does little to explain the decision-making behind Trump’s recent upheaval of the inspector general community, and Grassley made clear that he was dissatisfied by the response. It is unlikely to quell outrage from Democrats and good-government groups who fear the president is moving to dismantle a post-Watergate network of watchdogs meant to root out corruption, fraud and other problems.

BETHEL PARK, Pa. – (WPXI) – A local man is in jail after police said he tried stealing items from Bethel Park homes during the community’s National Night Out. Darren Jolly, 28, of Scenery Hill, is accused of pulling his truck up into the driveways of homes on Bethel Green Drive Tuesday night and taking items from backyards. Dominic Butera lives nearby, saw Jolly running and then confronted him. “I grabbed him by his shirt and kicked his legs out from underneath him and threw a few punches because he wouldn’t stop,” Butera said. Jolly tried to punch one person before several people took him to the ground and held him there until police got there and arrested him, police said. “When I got him on the ground, I told him he was going to go to jail, and he told me, ‘I’ll just get charged with trespassing, I’m not worried about it,'” Butera said. Jolly is facing several charges, including theft, trespassing and simple assault. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail. National Night Out is a chance for the community and police to come together to keep their communities safe.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Hunter Biden will be sentenced on felony firearms charges in December after the judge agreed to a delay requested by the defense. President Joe Biden’s son was convicted in June of three felonies to the purchase of a gun in 2018 when, prosecutors said, he lied on a federal form by saying he was not illegally using or addicted to drugs. He was initially scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 13, but the judge agreed to delay the hearing until Dec. 4 after Hunter Biden’s lawyers said they needed more time to adequately prepare. The gun charges are punishable by up to 25 years in prison, though he is likely to get far less time or avoid prison entirely.

The Charleroi School District cancelled classes Tuesday. District officials say it was the result of a water main break. Washington County 9-1-1 dispatchers told WJPA that a break was reported along McKean Avenue (Route 88) just before 5 a.m. The roadway was also closed in the area while crews made repairs. Officials say the water was turned off but it was unclear how many customers were impacted. It was unclear how long it would take to make repairs and restore service. A worker at the Authority of the Borough of Charleroi told our news partners at WPXI that the break was “bad”.
