MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — (WPXI) – TSA stopped a man from Gibsonia trying to bring a loaded gun through a checkpoint at the Pittsburgh International Airport on Saturday. The gun was loaded with seven bullets and had one in the chamber. 40 guns have been found at the airport’s checkpoints so far this year. The man will face a fine that can run up to $15,000. “There is no excuse for bringing a gun to the checkpoint,” said Karen Keys-Turner, TSA’s Federal Security Director for the airport. “Responsible gun owners do not bring their guns to a checkpoint. This was irresponsible on the part of this traveler during one of the busiest holiday travel periods of the year. Incidents such as this are dangerous, they disrupt our security screening operations and cause delays for other law-abiding travelers who just want to get on their flight to travel during the Thanksgiving holiday period TSA reminds travelers that guns are only allowed in checked bags and says they can not be loaded. KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – The Russian military says unauthorized use of cell phones by Russian soldiers led to a deadly Ukrainian rocket attack on the facility where they were stationed. It raised the death toll from the weekend attack to 89. Gen. Lt. Sergei Sevryukov said in a statement late Tuesday that phone signals allowed Kyiv’s forces to “determine the coordinates of the location of military personnel” and launch a strike. The weekend attack was one of the deadliest on the Kremlin’s forces since the start of the war over 10 months ago. It marked yet another setback for the Kremlin’s bogged-down war effort in Ukraine that has been undermined by a successful Ukrainian counteroffensive.

North Strabane Township Supervisors tabled any action related to the expansion of the Greenwood Village expansion plan. Supervisors held a public hearing over the course of two nights and ordered traffic studies so that they could determine whether to grant the conditional use application that would add 27 units on a five acre parcel. Developers would like to build this expansion to allow residents a second public access to the development. Supervisors tabled the measure in order to consider all testimony from residents from those public hearing nights. Township resident Vincent Ley is questioning the legality of the application put forth by the developer Greenwood Village, LP. He also feels that traffic studies done were not as extensive as they could have been. Supervisors now have 45 days from the closure of the public hearing on February 15 to grant or deny the conditional use application.

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Joe Biden is set to unveil the first part of his sweeping multitrillion-dollar infrastructure plan, aiming for passage over the summer. The White House is hoping for a more deliberate and collaborative approach with the contentious Congress than what happened with the COVID-19 rescue plan. Biden is set to unveil the first part of the “Build Back Better” proposal on Wednesday in Pittsburgh. The ambitious plan could cost between $3 trillion and $4 trillion and aims to make generational investments in infrastructure, including reviving domestic manufacturing. The plan also could include $3 trillion in tax increases.

Protests happened across the Pittsburgh area Monday afternoon in response to the death of George Floyd. It was the third straight day of protests in the region. Floyd died while in police custody earlier this week. Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was arrested Friday and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter in Floyd’s death. Chauvin is accused of keeping his knee on the Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes. Hundreds of protesters marched through the streets of Pittsburgh and then gathered in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood. (Photo: WPXI)

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J. (AP) – President Donald Trump says North Korea’s Kim Jong Un wants to meet once again to “start negotiations” after joint U.S.-South Korea military exercises end.
He says he’s looking “forward to seeing Kim Jong Un in the not too distant future!” Trump is tweeting more details from the “beautiful” three-page letter he told reporters Friday he’d received.
Trump said Saturday from his New Jersey golf club that Kim spent much of his letter complaining about “the ridiculous and expensive exercises.” He says that Kim offered him “a small apology” for the flurry of recent short-range missile tests that have rattled U.S. allies in the region and that Kim assured him they would stop when exercises end. The two leaders have met three times: in Singapore, Hanoi and at the Korean Demilitarized Zone.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre told a congressional committee Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Favre made the announcement as part of his testimony about a welfare misspending scandal in Mississippi. Favre does not face criminal charges, but he has repaid just over $1 million in speaking fees funded by a welfare program in the state. He was also an investor in a biotech company with ties to the case that said it was developing concussion drugs. It is unclear if Favre’s disease is connected to his football career or head injuries.

The Pittsburgh International Airport was packed with travelers making their way home after the Thanksgiving holiday. Despite the busy skies, several people said the travel day was smooth sailing. The TSA said air travel on Sunday could break a record for the busiest single travel day ever with an estimated 2.9 million passengers flying home. In Pittsburgh, the line for security spilled out past the ropes at one point. If you plan on flying out on Monday, there could be some weather delays and cancellations. The TSA is urging travelers to check their flight status and arrive at the airport at least two hours early.

WASHINGTON (AP) – House Republicans are plowing through the second day of the new Congress, with no clear off-ramp from their political chaos over electing a new speaker. Republican leader Kevin McCarthy failed anew to win the House speakership in two votes, faring no better than he had in three votes Tuesday when 20 fellow Republicans rejected his bid. Former President Donald Trump vigorously renewed his support for McCarthy, but it made no difference. And an outspoken conservative Republican said Trump should tell McCarthy to drop out. The chamber’s most conservative members believe he’s neither conservative enough nor tough enough to battle Democrats.

Washington County Clerk of Courts Brenda Davis is hoping to have her contempt of court hearing, scheduled for Monday, stayed by a court order. Davis’s attorney filed a request Tuesday morning with the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania requesting it review Washington County President Judge John DiSalle’s administrative orders regarding the Clerk of Courts Office. The request is seeking to find out whether the orders issued in 2021 infringe on the consitutional duties of the office. The filing is an application for a Writ of Prohibition and a request for an emergency stay of her contempt hearing. The contempt hearing was stayed once when Davis appealed to the state’s Commonwealth Court. The court, however, rejected her appeals and Judge DiSalle scheduled the hearing for Monday. The hearing stems from an incident just before Thanksgiving when Davis was detained by sheriff’s deputies for allegedly refusing to allow the transfer of juvenile court records from her office to another office.
