ROBINSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. —(WPXI)- A police officer was hit by a man suspected of driving drunk in Robinson Township. According to court documents, police officers were responding to an accident at the 4300 block of Campbells Run Road when a Ford Expedition came at them at a high rate of speed. Police say the area was clearly closed with a fully marked patrol vehicle with activated light being used in all directions. The Ford was coming towards Kieners Lane from Baldwin Road when it hit a police officer’s vehicle. The officer who was hit reported initially that he was okay but was later taken to a hospital to be further evaluated. Court documents say the driver was Joseph E. Price, 54, from Carnegie. Officers say they smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car. Police said they took Price to the ground after asking him to get out of his car and he refused. He was placed into handcuffs. Price allegedly told police he had been drinking for most of the day while at a golf outing. He could not tell officers where he lived when they asked. A small vile of white powder was found in Ford. Police said Price told them it was cocaine when they asked him. Price faces an aggravated assault by vehicle charge, a charge of recklessly endangering another person, a charge of driving other the influence and several other driving charges.

PennDOT Reveals Plans To Replace Speers Bridge

February 20, 2022 1:34 am

A bridge with a history of low clearance incidents is set to be replaced this Spring. PennDot opened a virtual plans display for the Maple Drive Bridge (Route 2027) spanning over Interstate 70 in Speers. The current structure has a height of just 14.3 feet from the highway, and the new bridge will be set at 16.5 feet to help taller vehicles pass below. Improvements will also be made to the interchange with the interstate. During construction, a single lane of traffic will be maintained southbound on the bridge, with detours in place for northbound traffic, utilizing both I-70 and the Charleroi Exit. There will be some nighttime interstate closures and a full weekend closure of Maple Drive during the project, which is set to start in April and last until mid-November of this year. Plans are displayed on the PennDot District 12 website until Monday, February 21st.

Trump Escalates War On Social Media Companies

May 28, 2020 4:05 am

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Donald Trump is escalating his war on social media companies, signing an executive order challenging the liability protections that have served as a bedrock for unfettered speech on the internet. He declared he was “fed up” with what he considers bias as prepared to sign the order on Thursday. Still, the move appears to be more about politics than substance, as the president aims to rally supporters after he lashed out at Twitter for applying fact checks to two of his tweets. Legal experts have expressed doubts Trump can do much by himself, without an act of Congress. And the order is certain to face legal challenges.

Celebs And Others Calling For Boycott Of Luxury Gym

August 8, 2019 3:53 pm

(AP) – Luxury gym Equinox and indoor cycling studio Soul Cycle are facing a backlash from some members and celebrities over a fundraiser being held for President Donald Trump by a company executive.  Stephen Ross, chairman and founder of real estate development company The Related Cos., which owns Equinox and SoulCycle, is throwing the fundraiser on Friday at his house in the Hamptons. Ross also owns the Miami Dolphins football team.   Trump critics took to Twitter to say they would boycott the fitness companies, calling the president a racist and unfriendly to the gay and lesbian community, and asserting that they didn’t want their money supporting his 2020 presidential campaign.   Equinox and SoulCycle tried to separate themselves from Ross and his fundraiser.

AI Is Helping Shape The 2024 Presidential Race

September 21, 2024 4:20 am

WASHINGTON (AP) — Generative artificial intelligence is playing a major role in the presidential campaign, even if the greatest fears about how it could threaten the U.S. presidential election haven’t materialized yet. Fake AI-generated images regularly ricochet around the web. Many of them are so cartoonish and absurd that even the most naïve viewer couldn’t take them seriously. Still, even these memes can be problematic. Eye-catching AI-generated photos and videos, some striving to be funny, have become useful tools for spreading false, sometimes racist messages with a clear political bent — and candidates and their supporters are among those sharing them on social media.

Oil And Gas Sector Must Slash Planet-warming Operations

November 23, 2023 4:11 am

The oil and gas sector, one of the major emitters of planet-warming gases, will need a rapid and substantial overhaul for the world to avoid even worse extremes fueled by human-caused climate change. That’s according to a report released Thursday. The International Energy Agency says the current investment of $800 billion a year for the oil and gas sector will need to be slashed in half and emissions need to fall by 60% to give the world a fighting chance to meet its climate goals. It also found that the sector’s investment into clean technologies like solar and wind only account for 1% of the global total.

The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh will hold a special mass commemorating the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI who died Saturday at the age of 95. A mass with Bishop Larry J. Kulick was held at 11:45 Monday morning at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg. Bishop David Zubik of the Diocese of Pittsburgh says a mass will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Saint Paul Cathedral, Pittsburgh, the same day that Pope Benedict will be laid to rest at Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Zubik highlighted the former pope’s historic decision to resign when he could no longer fulfill his duties to the best of his ability.  “The way that he has lived quietly, in a brotherly friendship with his successor, Pope Francis, is a model for all Catholics to follow as we continue to journey together in service to Jesus and His church,” he said.  (Photo:  WPXI)
