DALLAS (AP) — The Thanksgiving travel rush is expected to be bigger than ever this year. AAA predicts that nearly 80 million people in the U.S. will venture at least 50 miles from home between Tuesday and next Monday — most of them by car. Thanksgiving Day falling so late this year has altered traditional travel patterns. At airports, the Transportation Security Administration says it could screen a record number of U.S. air travelers on Sunday. Meanwhile, the head of the Federal Aviation Administration says a shortage of air traffic controllers could cause flight delays. Transportation analytics company INRIX says roads could be congested on Monday with both commuters and returning holiday travelers.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A judge has delayed until January his decision on whether to resentence Erik and Lyle Menendez for killing their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion 35 years ago. Superior Court Judge Michael Jesic said he needed time to review 17 boxes of documents. Still he let the brothers’ aunts take the stand. They both testified on their behalf as the brothers seek to have their 1989 convictions reexamined in the shotgun murders of their parents Jose and Kitty Menendez. They argued the convictions should be reexamined because of new evidence of sex abuse by the brothers’ father. The brothers were sentenced to life without parole.

(ap) – Egg prices are on the rise again as a lingering outbreak of bird flu coincides with high demand during the holiday baking season. The average price for a dozen eggs in U.S. cities was $3.37 in October, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That was up 63% from October 2023, when a dozen eggs cost an average of $2.07. Avian influenza is the main culprit. The current bird flu outbreak that began in February 2022 has led to the slaughter of more than 111 million birds, mostly egg-laying chickens. But the American Egg Board says egg shortages at grocery stores have been isolated and temporary so far.

PITTSBURGH — (WPXI) – SWAT responded to Pittsburgh’s Knoxville neighborhood early Sunday morning after a man was hurt in a shooting. He was taken to an area hospital in stable condition. The spokesperson said the suspect was believed to be in a residence on nearby Amanda Street. SWAT responded to the area to search the residence. The suspect was not located and the building was cleared by 7:15 a.m., over two hours after SWAT arrived. Police located shell casings while processing the scene for evidence. WINDSOR, Calif. (AP) — Forecasters in the U.S. have warned of another round of wintry weather that could complicate travel leading up to Thanksgiving. Drivers with E-ZPass will no longer have to slow down to go through toll booths when entering the Ohio Turnpike from Pennsylvania. Just in time for the busy Thanksgiving holiday travel period, the Ohio Turnpike announced that westbound open road tolling is operational at the Eastgate Toll Plaza near the Ohio-Pennsylvania border. This means drivers with E-ZPass can drive through the plaza at highway speeds, using the left lanes of the roadway. Drivers without E-ZPass will still have to stop at a booth to pay a roundtrip flat-rate fee. Unlike Pennsylvania, the Ohio Turnpike does not utilize a system where tolls are billed through license plates. So, all drivers without E-ZPass must stop at a toll booth to avoid additional fees. There is not a toll eastbound through the Eastgate Toll Plaza.

SCOTT TOWNSHIP, Pa. — (WPXI) – Bagpipers played a moving tribute during a final salute at a viewing for fallen Pittsburgh Battalion Fire Chief John Walsh. Family, friends and fellow firefighters showed up in the hundreds throughout the day at William Slater Funeral Home in Scott Township Sunday to pay their respects to the beloved firefighter and family man who died in the line of duty earlier this week. The 60-year-old battalion chief collapsed while commanding the scene of a house fire in East Hills Wednesday. Walsh later died at the hospital. His family believes he suffered a heart attack. The firefighter served the department for 37 years. Walsh’s SUV with Station 8 was parked outside the funeral home draped in a black ribbon in honor of the fallen battalion chief. Two firefighters stood watch over the battalion chief’s body overnight until his funeral procession Monday morning, which went from the funeral home to St. Paul Cathedral in Oakland.

WASHINGTON (AP) — During the campaign, President-elect Donald Trump had hailed what would become Project 2025 as a conservative roadmap for “exactly what our movement will do.” Trump pulled an about-face when Project 2025 became a political liability. He denied knowing anything about the “ridiculous and abysmal” plans, even though some were written by his former aides and many allies. Now, after winning the 2024 election, Trump is stocking his second administration with key players in the effort he temporarily shunned. Trump has tapped Russell Vought for an encore as director of the Office of Management and Budget; Tom Homan, his former immigration chief, as “border czar;” and immigration hardliner Stephen Miller as deputy chief of policy.

NEW YORK (AP) — Chuck Woolery, the affable, smooth-talking game show host of “Wheel of Fortune,” “Love Connection” and “Scrabble” who later became a right-wing podcaster, skewering liberals and accusing the government of lying about COVID-19, has died. He was 83. Mark Young, Woolery’s podcast co-host and friend, said in an email early Sunday that Woolery died at his home in Texas with his wife, Kristen, present. Woolery, with his matinee idol looks, coiffed hair and ease with witty banter, was inducted into the American TV Game Show Hall of Fame in 2007 and earned a daytime Emmy nomination in 1978. He teamed up with Young for the podcast “Blunt Force Truth” and became a full supporter Donald Trump. (Photo: AP)
