WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans are asking the U.S. Supreme Court for an emergency order in Pennsylvania that could result in thousands of votes not being counted in this year’s election in the battleground state. Just over a week before the election, the court was asked Monday to step into a dispute over provisional ballots cast by Pennsylvania voters whose mail ballots are rejected for not following technical procedures in state law. The state’s high court ruled 4-3 last week that elections officials must count provisional ballots cast by voters whose mail-in ballots were voided because they arrived without mandatory secrecy envelopes. The election fight arrived at the Supreme Court the same day Virginia sought the justices’ intervention in a dispute over purging voter registrations.

State Police say puppies that were found in a Washington County trash can have died. Troopers say four Pitt-bull style puppies were found tied in grocery bags in a trash can in Canton Township on Oct. 20th. One of the puppies had already died when they were found by neighbors who heard them crying. The three other puppies were taken for veterinary care and were awaiting surgery to deal with serious injuries to their legs. Police though, say all three died before they could have the surgery. police say Franklin Donley and Jessica Vanderlee are now facing multiple charges of aggravated animal cruelty. Police allege that Donley thought his dog attacked and partially maimed the puppies after giving birth and he didn’t want his 10-year-old daughter to see what happened. Authorities claim Donley and Vanderlee mutually disposed of the puppies. (Photo: WPXI)

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Donald Trump says his weekend rally that was marked by crude and racist insults was a “lovefest.” That’s a term the former president has also used to reference the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Given several opportunities to apologize on Tuesday, Trump instead leaned in, saying it was an “honor to be involved” in the Madison Square Garden rally. With just a week before Election Day, some Trump allies have voiced alarm that the rally was a liability, given the electoral importance of Puerto Ricans who live in Pennsylvania and other key swing states. He was joined Tuesday night at a rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania, by Puerto Rico’s shadow U.S. senator, who defended him.

(AP) – Millions who could benefit from hearing aids have never tried them. Cost, access to health care and stigma create major barriers, even though the devices are available over-the-counter. An AirPods Pro 2 update will now put the devices in more Americans’ pockets. They might not be the perfect fit, but experts hope they’ll encourage people to test out a hearing aid and normalize using the devices.

PITTSBURGH — Sunday marked six years since the deadliest antisemitic attack on American soil. On Oct. 27, 2018, a gunman opened fire at a Pittsburgh synagogue killing 11 Jewish worshipers in the hate-fueled attack. A commemoration was held at the Jewish Community Center to honor the innocent lives taken on that day and stand united against hate. The remembrance ceremony was filled with songs, prayers and stories of the victims. Dried-out bouquets were on display for people to see for the first time. The flowers were part of a memorial that was left outside the Tree of Life synagogue in the hours following the mass shooting. The mass shooting was one of the darkest days for the Jewish community. During the somber ceremony, victims’ families, survivors, Jewish community leaders and first responders hugged and shared tears as they read the 11 names aloud and lit a candle in their memory.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — McDonald’s says testing has ruled out beef patties as the source of the outbreak of E. coli poisoning tied to its Quarter Pounders. The company said Sunday it will resume selling Quarter Pounders at hundreds of affected restaurants in the coming week. McDonald’s said in a statement that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration continues to believe that slivered onions from a single supplier are the likely source of contamination. Federal health officials said that as of Friday, the outbreak had expanded to at least 75 people sick in 13 states. WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats are stepping up their attacks on Donald Trump a day after a comedian opening a Trump rally called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage.” The comment at Madison Square Garden drew wide condemnation and highlighted the rising power of a key Latino group in the swing state of Pennsylvania. The Trump campaign distanced itself from the remarks on Puerto Rico made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe (pictured). The political fallout underscores the importance of Pennsylvania’s 19 electoral votes and the last-minute efforts to court growing numbers of Hispanic voters there. Trump did not directly mention the controversy during his appearances in Georgia. At a rally in Atlanta, Trump criticized Harris for calling him a fascist, declaring: “I’m not a Nazi.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — A new poll finds that American voters are approaching the presidential election with deep unease about what could follow. They are worried about the potential for political violence, attempts to overturn the results and the implications for democracy. The survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research speaks to persistent concerns about the fragility of the world’s oldest democracy. It comes nearly four years after former President Donald Trump’s refusal to accept the 2020 results inspired a mob of his supporters to violently storm the Capitol. About 4 in 10 registered voters say they are extremely or very worried about violent attempts to overturn the election results. A similar share is concerned about legal efforts to do so.
