Missing Boy Found Hours Later In Peters Township

August 30, 2024 5:03 am

CECIL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — (WPXI) – A sixth-grader who was last seen leaving Cecil Intermediate School Thursday morning was found over six miles away in Peters Township that evening. There are a lot of unanswered questions about exactly how he got there. The family of a missing 11-year-old got the news that their child had been found safely, nearly eight hours after he reportedly left Cecil Intermediate School at 9:20 Thursday morning. Cecil Township police say the Canon-McMillan School District let them know that the student was missing after 2 p.m. Officers immediately started a massive search for the sixth-grader. “I don’t know how he came all the way to here,” Abeer Kronawetter said. Kronawetter, who owns the Peters Township Firehouse Subs, says the 11-year-old made his way into her store after lunch Thursday. “We’re used to seeing that. So it wasn’t strange for us when we saw it. If I knew I would’ve grabbed him,” Kronawetter said. Over three hours later, the missing boy’s mother came into her store asking if she’d seen her son. The mother asked if the business would post the boy’s picture and information, which they did on the outside door. Authorities haven’t said how or why he ended up along Gallery Drive in McMurray. After several reported sightings of the boy along the Montour Trial Thursday afternoon, police found him after 5 o’clock at Peters Town Center. The Canon-McMillan School District has not commented on the incident.

The military said in a statement posted on Facebook that the fighter jet went down on Monday, when Russia launched a major missile and drone barrage at Ukraine. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that some of those Russian missiles and drones were shot down by F-16s before they reached their targets. The crash was the first reported loss of an F-16 in Ukraine, where they arrived at the end of last month. At least six of the warplanes are believed to have been delivered.

August 29, 2024 5:48 pm

TULKAREM, West Bank (AP) — The Israeli military says it has killed five more militants, including a local commander, in the occupied West Bank. The army has pressed ahead with what appears to be the deadliest military operation in the occupied territory since the start of the war in Gaza. Israel says the raids are aimed at preventing attacks. The raids have killed a total of 16 people, nearly all militants, since late Tuesday. The Palestinians see them as a widening of the war in Gaza aimed at perpetuating Israel’s decades-long military rule. The Islamic Jihad militant group confirmed that Mohammed Jaber, known as Abu Shujaa, was killed early Thursday.

Army Says “Arlington Trump Incident” Closed

August 29, 2024 5:46 pm

WASHINGTON (AP) — An Arlington National Cemetery official was “abruptly pushed aside” during an altercation with former President Donald Trump’s staff during a wreath-laying ceremony but declined to press charges. A statement from an Army spokesman Thursday said the cemetery employee was trying to ensure those participating in Monday’s ceremony were following the rules. The spokesman says the employee “acted with professionalism and avoided further disruption.” The incident was reported to the police, but the employee decided not to press charges. The Army said it considered the matter closed. The Trump campaign contested the allegation that a campaign staffer had pushed the cemetery official and pushed back on the notion that the official was unfairly targeted.  (Photo:  AP)

Court Rules Jewish Family Can Put Signs Up Against Racism

August 29, 2024 4:20 pm

(AP) – The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has ruled that a Jewish family had the free-speech right to blanket their yard with signs decrying hate and racism after their next-door neighbor hurled an antisemitic slur at them during a property dispute 10 years ago. The court ruled Simon and Toby Galapo were exercising their rights under the Pennsylvania Constitution when they erected protest signs on their property and pointed them squarely at the neighbor’s house in the Philadelphia suburbs. The signs had messages such as “No Place 4 Racism.” The neighbors wanted the signs taken down, alleging they were defamatory and a nuisance.

Harris & Walz Sit Down For First Major Interview

August 29, 2024 4:57 am

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris said Thursday “my values have not changed,” as she was questioned along with her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz in their first major television interview of their presidential campaign. Thursday’s interview with CNN’s Dana Bash is giving Harris a chance to quell criticism that she is unprepared for uncontrolled environments, define her campaign and test her political mettle ahead of an upcoming debate with former President Donald Trump set for Sept. 10. But the interview also carries risks as her team tries to build on momentum from the ticket shakeup following Joe Biden’s exit and the Democratic National Convention.
