BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Former President Donald Trump traveled to Montana for a Friday night rally in hopes of ousting the state’s Democratic senator, but his plane first had to divert to an airport on the other side of the Rocky Mountains because of a mechanical issue, according to airport staff. Trump’s plane was en route to Bozeman, Montana, when it was diverted to Billings, 142 miles to the east. Trump eventually made it to the Bozeman rally, where he ripped into incumbent Sen. Jon Tester, mocking him for being overweight and for insinuating he sometimes sided with the former president. “That guy voted to impeach me,” Trump said of Tester.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris drew on her prosecutorial background to make her first expansive pitch on immigration to border-state voters as she and her new running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, attracted thousands to a campaign rally in Arizona during their tour of battleground states. Harris, the former attorney general of California, reminded the crowd that she as a law enforcement official targeted transnational gangs, drug cartels and smugglers. “I prosecuted them in case after case, and I won,” Harris said in front of a crowd of more than 15,000 in Glendale, a suburb of Phoenix. “So I know what I’m talking about.”

VINHEDO, Brazil (AP) — Brazilian authorities are working to piece together what exactly caused the plane crash in Sao Paulo state the prior day that killed all 61 people aboard. More money is being made available for trade and vo-tech programs in Pennsylvania. Governor Josh Shapiro visited the Ruff Creek UMWA Career Center in Greene County Thursday to sign a bill earmarking 30 million dollars for the expansion of vocational training and investments in workplace development across the commonwealth. The Governor and Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry Secretary, Nancy Walker, were on hand to roll out the bill that will highlight job training, apprenticeship programs, and vo-tech programs. The bi-partisan deal is part of the 2024-2025 budget signed into law last month. Governor Shapiro says the secured investment will help open doors of economic advancement and give Pennsylvanians the opportunity to chart their own course. The bill is aimed at helping students, and those changing careers, to stay close to home and receive training in specialized fields that may fall outside of a 4 year degree program. The measure is designed to fill trade job openings and allow those who don’t wish to attend college to use their skills in other ways and make a fair living wage. Shapiro also addressed his heightened visibility over the past few weeks as a potential VP pick. He says although he is no longer in the running he is all in supporting the democratic ticket.

It seems that a nearly-done deal for the city of Washington to sell its parking garage to the county is not so done after all. Washington County Commissioners Chairman Nick Sherman shared a letter with WJPA that he sent to the Washington Parking Authority, following a parking authority meeting Wednesday night. Sherman asked the authority to reconsider its decision to turn the deal down. Sherman says they wanted more than the four-million-dollars the building was assessed at, but Washington Mayor JoJo Burgess tells WJPA the authority’s decision was made – because after months of paperwork, the numbers didn’t match up to their initial offering. In his letter, Sherman said that they had informed all the parties involved that the funding for the purchase would be coming from the American Rescue Plan Act and a decision would need to be made and voted on at the commissioners August meeting. Sherman says the authorities decision not to accept the offer will force the county to build its own parking garage on county property, creating a significant burden for city residents and school district taxpayers. Sherman asked the authority to reconsider its decision and invited the board to join them at the table for continued discussions.
