August 26, 2024 4:54 am

LONDON (AP) — Oasis, the Britpop band known for timeless hits like “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” is reuniting for a tour of the British Isles next summer. The announcement ends a 15-year hiatus and, presumably, the long-held feud between brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher. The guitar band will play 14 dates in Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland next July and August. Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Saturday. Oasis split in 2009 after many years of infighting, with Noel Gallagher officially leaving the band just before a performance at a festival near Paris.

PLEASANT HILLS, Pa. — (WPXI) – A hybrid battery ignited a truck fire in Allegheny County. Pleasant Hills Volunteer Fire Company crews responded to a reported fire in the bed of a pick-up truck on Oakcrest Lane Sunday around 2:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they found the truck “well involved” and began to put out the flames. Fire officials say they used a ground monitor to flow water on the battery for nearly an hour to cool it off and extinguish the fire. Although the truck was destroyed, first responders tell Channel 11 that no one was hurt and a nearby home was not damaged.  (PHOTO: Pleasant Hills Volunteer Fire Department)

Court Asked To Reinstate Documents Case Against Trump

August 26, 2024 4:51 am

WASHINGTON (AP) — Special counsel Jack Smith has asked a federal appeals court to reinstate the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump after it was dismissed by a judge last month. U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon threw out the case, one of four prosecutions of Trump, after concluding that Smith’s appointment as special counsel was unconstitutional. Smith’s team then appealed to the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The appeal is the latest salvo in a prosecution that many legal experts consider a straightforward criminal case but has been derailed by delays, months of hearings before Cannon, a Trump-appointed judge, and ultimately a dismissal order that brought the proceedings to at least a temporary halt.

Police with the Division of Natural Resources got a call about the possible drowning around 12:30 yesterday afternoon and divers were sent to the lake in the area of Morgan Run Road. Trump To Tie Harris To Afghanistan Withdrawal

August 25, 2024 5:05 am

Former President Donald Trump is expected to tie Vice President Kamala Harris to the chaotic Afghanistan War withdrawal on the third anniversary of the suicide bombing that killed 13 service members. Trump is expected to visit Arlington National Cemetery on Monday to pay his respects to the service members killed in the bombing outside the Kabul airport. Trump will then go to Michigan to address the National Guard Association of the United States conference. Last week, Trump pointed to comments by Harris that she was the last person in the room before Biden made the decision on Afghanistan.

Dr. Fauci Hospitalized With West Nile Virus

August 25, 2024 4:51 am

A spokesperson says Dr. Anthony Fauci spent time in the hospital with a case of West Nile virus and is now recovering at home. He is expected to make a full recovery. The virus is commonly spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. CBS News’ chief medical correspondent, Dr. Jonathan LaPook, says in a social media post that he spoke with Fauci by phone Saturday, and that Fauci spent about a week in the hospital after likely being infected from a mosquito bite that he got in his backyard. As chief White House medical adviser, Fauci was the public face of the government during the COVID-19 pandemic.

NASA Not Using Boeing Capsule To Bring Astronauts Back

August 25, 2024 4:49 am

NASA says it won’t use Boeing’s Starliner capsule to bring two stranded astronauts back to Earth. Saturday’s decision is another black eye to Boeing’s reputation and another setback for the company’s troubled defense and space business. Boeing is better known for building passenger airplanes. But lately it has been getting even more revenue from its defense and space division. That business is struggling, however, because of losses from fixed-price government contracts like the one Boeing got from NASA for Starliner. The company is on the hook for delays and cost overruns in the space capsule program.

Maduro; no ‘necessary public evidence’ to declare victory

August 25, 2024 4:42 am

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The European Union’s top diplomat says that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has “not provided the necessary public evidence” to prove he was the winner of July’s elections. Josep Borrell, the high representative of the EU, made the comments in a statement on Saturday. It comes days after the country’s Supreme Court backed the government’s disputed claims of victory. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Colombian President Gustavo Petro also said in a joint statement that the “credibility of the electoral process can only be restored through the transparent publication of disaggregated and verifiable data.” The two leaders also warned against repression as the Venezuelan government has jailed thousands and met protests with violence.
