Time To “Spring Forward”

March 12, 2023 3:37 am

WASHINGTON (AP) — Standard time comes to an end in most parts of the United States this weekend. You’ll lose an hour of sleep for one night but gain more daylight in the evening in the months ahead. The transition to daylight saving time is official at 2 a.m. local time Sunday across much of the country. Then on March 20, winter sunsets and spring is sprung. Until daylight saving time ends in the wee hours of Nov. 5, the sun will rise later in the morning than than it has during standard time but it will stay light for longer until the evening. It’s a good idea to set clocks an hour ahead before bed Saturday night.  The American Red Cross is also reminding you that with the time change should come the testing of smoke alarms.  They say working smoke alarms can cut the risk of dying in a home fire by half.

PEÑITAS, Texas (AP) — U.S. authorities say three women haven’t been heard from since they traveled from Texas into Mexico two weeks ago. Two of the women are sisters: 47-year-old Maritza Trinidad Perez Rios and 48-year-old Marina Perez Rios. They were accompanied by their friend, 53-year-old Dora Alicia Cervantes Saenz. Bermea said the sisters lived in Peñitas, a small border city. He did not know where the other woman lived. The episode stands in stark contrast to the government and media frenzy over the abduction of four Americans in Mexico last week.

Trump Invited To Testify Before NY Grand Jury

March 10, 2023 4:20 am

NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Donald Trump has been invited to testify next week before a New York grand jury that has been investigating hush money payments made on his behalf during his 2016 presidential campaign. That’s according to one of his lawyers. Such an invitation often indicates a decision on indictments is near. The Manhattan district attorney’s office declined to comment. Any indictment would mark the first time any former U.S. president has been charged with a crime. Trump attorney Joseph Tacopina says a case would have no legal basis.
