Infant Found Dead In Trunk Of Vehicle In Pittsburgh

October 25, 2025 9:48 am

(WPXI) — An investigation is underway after Pittsburgh Police say an infant’s body was found in the trunk of a vehicle on Friday night. A Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson says this investigation began after a woman from Ohio Township showed up at a Pittsburgh hospital after giving birth, but without a baby in her possession. When later questioned about the infant’s whereabouts, Ohio Township officers were led to a vehicle on Federal Street. That’s where they found the infant’s body, wrapped in clothing and placed in a plastic bag. The public safety spokesperson said at this point, the Pittsburgh Police Mobile Crime and Violent Crime Unit responded to Federal Street and a residence on the 100 block of Marshall Avenue. They say the woman is known to spend time at the Marshall Avenue residence, and detectives found evidence that a baby had likely been recently born there. The woman is currently being treated at the hospital and will be taken to police headquarters for questioning once medically cleared.

Money Motivated Pa. Voter Fraud, Prosecutors Say

October 25, 2025 4:39 am

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A yearlong investigation into suspected fraudulent voter registration forms in Pennsylvania has led to criminal charges against six street canvassers and their leader. Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday said Friday the fraud was motivated by financial gain, not an attempt to influence election results. The man who led the drives in Pennsylvania is Guillermo Sainz. He is charged with illegally offering money to meet quotas. The six canvassers are charged with forgery and tampering with records. The investigation began in late October 2024 when election workers in one county flagged about 2,500 forms for potential fraud. The forms included all party affiliations.

UNIONTOWN, Pa. — A man has been sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted of killing his wife in Uniontown. Arthur Guty, 57, was arrested at a Las Vegas resort in January 2024 after his wife, Franyerlys Nicole Zambrano Briceno, 26, was found dead from a single gunshot wound in a house on Brier Avenue on New Year’s Day. Guty was convicted and immediately sentenced to life in prison on Thursday. Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele prosecuted the case and said “we grieve with the numerous friends and family members of Nicole, many of whom traveled from Venezuela and across the United States to participate in this trial and secure justice for her; may her memory be eternal,”. Back in 2019, Guty’s ex-wife, Roxanne Guty, tried to hire someone to kill him in exchange for half of his life insurance policy. She was sentenced to lesser charges.

District Attorney; Chief Justified In McDonald Shooting

October 24, 2025 2:52 am

Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh says his office has concluded its investigation into a shooting earlier this month, after the McDonald police chief reportedly shot the man right outside of Michael’s Tavern in McDonald. 37-year-old Jeremy Washington was wanted for threatening a person with a gun. Police say Washington was being sought after the McDonald man reportedly threatened a person at the McDonald Plaza with a gun. Less than 30 minutes later, Chief Timothy Motte spotted Washington on East Lincoln Avenue. Washington started to run when the chief walked up to him and then a witness saw Washington point a gun at the chief. That’s when the chief fired one round, hitting Washington.  Washington was taken to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition.  He’s facing multiple charges.

Inflation Stays Elevated But Prices Rose Less Than Feared

October 25, 2025 2:51 am

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. inflation remained elevated last month as the costs of some imported goods rose while rental prices cooled. Consumer prices increased 3% in September from a year earlier, the Labor Department said Friday, up from 2.9% in August. The figures reflect a smaller increase than many economists had forecast, and will likely encourage the Federal Reserve to cut its key interest rate when it meets next week for the second time this year.

States Worry About Filling Gap In Food Aid

October 25, 2025 2:45 am

A federal food aid program that helps about one in eight Americans buy groceries stands to be paused Nov. 1 because of the government shutdown. Officials in Louisiana, Vermont and Virginia say they’ll keep the programs alive, though how they’ll do it isn’t clear. Even some states that want to step in to fill the gap have found they can’t. Recipients of the food aid, food banks, states and advocates are bracing for a pause to payments from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program at the end of next week. Some states have looked into funding food assistance themselves but they’re finding that federal control of some key details of the program is a major obstacle.

Trump Ending Trade Talks With Canada Over TV Ads

October 25, 2025 2:01 am

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump says on social media that he is ending “all trade negotiations” with Canada because of recent television ads protesting U.S. tariffs, which he calles “egregious behavior” aimed at influencing U.S. court decisions. The post late Thursday comes after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he aims to double his country’s exports to countries outside the U.S. because of the threat posed by Trump’s tariffs. Trump’s call for an abrupt end to negotiations could further inflame trade tensions that already have been building between the two neighboring countries for months.

White House East Wing Demolished

October 25, 2025 2:04 am

WASHINGTON (AP) — Associated Press photos show the entire White House East Wing has been demolished as President Donald Trump moves ahead with building a ballroom. The two-story structure of drawing rooms and offices, including a walkway to the White House, has been turned into rubble. The wing was demolished as part of the Republican president’s plan to build a ballroom nearly twice the size of the White House itself that he now says will cost $300 million. Trump said Wednesday that keeping the East Wing would have “hurt a very, very expensive, beautiful building,” referring to the ballroom that he said presidents have wanted for years.
