JD Vance Set To Address Republican National Convention

July 17, 2024 5:03 am

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance will introduce himself to a national audience as he addresses the Republican National Convention. The Ohio senator’s headlining address on Wednesday will be his first speech as the Republican vice-presidential nominee. He’s a relative political unknown who rapidly morphed in recent years from a severe critic to an aggressive defender of Trump. Vance is the first millennial to join a major-party ticket, and he joins the race as questions about the age of the men at the top of the tickets — 78-year-old Trump and 81-year-old President Joe Biden — have been high on the list of voters’ concerns.

Conflicting Conspiracy Theories Emerge From Shooting

July 17, 2024 5:00 am

WASHINGTON (AP) — Two very different conspiracy theories are spreading in the days following former President Donald Trump’s attempted assassination. For some Trump supporters, the failure of the Secret Service to stop the shooter before he fired at Trump suggests a conspiracy orchestrated by President Joe Biden. For some Trump critics, however, the same video footage is being used to suggest Trump staged the shooting. There’s no evidence to support either claim, and authorities haven’t suggested a motive for the suspect. That lack of information is prompting many people to go online for information. Often, the misleading claims they encounter say less about the shooting than the country’s political polarization.

Man Injured In Road Rage Shooting

July 17, 2024 4:55 am

PITTSBURGH — (WPXI) – Police are looking for the person who pulled the trigger after a man was shot in Downtown Pittsburgh Tuesday afternoon. According to police, he was hit twice in the arm and taken to the hospital in stable condition. The victim stopped his car near the corner of 4th Avenue and Smithfield Street just after 4 p.m. Police say the shooting likely happened about a block away on 3rd Avenue and Cherry Street but the whole ordeal began in the South Side as a road rage incident. “The victim vehicle was driving erratically from the Smithfield Street Bridge into town,” Police Chief Larry Scirotto said. “His aggressive driving may have prompted this gunfire exchange.”  Police are still looking for the shooter and a silver Dodge Charger. If you have any information that can help, you are asked to call them. The victim may also face charges for his role in the road rage incident that led to the shooting.

Trump Shooter Remains An Elusive Enigma

July 17, 2024 4:51 am

BETHEL PARK, Pa. (AP) — Three days after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, the 20-year-old man who came close to killing the former president remains an enigma. Neighbors describe Thomas Matthew Crooks as an intelligent loner with few friends who left a vanishingly thin social media footprint and no hint of strong political beliefs. Even his cellphone bore few clues after the FBI accessed its contents, frustrating investigators’ efforts to identify a potential motive. Classmates at Bethel Park High School said Crooks was smart but standoffish, often seen wearing headphones and preferring to sit alone at lunch looking at his phone.

BETHEL PARK, Pa. — (WPXI) – We continue to learn more about the gunman responsible for an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on Saturday. Our news partners at Channel-11 have learned that Thomas Crooks attended a technical school for two years in high school and was set to go to college in the fall. They spoke with a teacher who said Crooks was a good kid and very smart. The teacher said they didn’t think he was bullied. Crooks graduated from Bethel Park High School, but he attended Steel Center Technical School for two of his high school years, a half-day program that students are bussed to and from. He attended the program during his sophomore and junior years, enrolled in the computer technology program. They also heard from a former coworker at the nursing home where Crooks worked. She said he was sweet and helpful. Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the shooting.

North Strabane To Look At Fee Updates

July 17, 2024 4:44 am

North Strabane Township Supervisors will entertain a rather procedural agenda at their Legislative Meeting next week. On tap will be updates to the fee schedule. Fees across the board, construction, inspection and recreation fees will see some sort of an adjustment with some new fees to be introduced. Supervisors will also look to hire a new Director of Community Development. One item still under consideration is the rezoning of a lot at the corner of Curry and Morganza Roads from commercial to industrial to accommodate the construction of a personal warehouse. Planning and zoning officials are still struggling with the definition of a personal warehouse and which zone fits the development best. Supervisors will hold their Legislative Meeting on Tuesday July 23.

DENVER (AP) — Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Davis says he was “humiliated” after being unjustly handcuffed and removed from a United Airlines flight over the weekend. Davis said Monday on Instagram that he had tapped a flight attendant on the arm prompting the employee to shout “don’t hit me” and hurry toward the front of the plane. Davis says when the flight landed, law-enforcement boarded, put Davis in handcuffs and removed him from the flight. Law enforcement later apologized and released Davis. United Airlines said it has removed the flight attendant from duty while the incident is being reviewed.  (Photo:  AP)

Jury Deliberations Underway In Murder Trial

July 16, 2024 5:36 pm

On the final day of testimony in the Scott Edmonds murder trial, the defense called one additional expert witness and presented Scott Edmonds as a witness in his own defense. Arthur W. Yung of Abington, PA was presented as an expert to testify regarding blood stain pattern analysis and other photographic evidence presented. The bulk of the day’s testimony came from Edmonds himself. He described for the jury his version of the events that transpired when Edmonds’  wife Louise Weis-Edmonds was found by police being cradled by Edmonds in a pool of her own blood. He detailed his displeasure of his wife constantly tending to her elderly mother. He spoke of her heavy drinking. He explained his version of how male voices from his personal phone number called a patient of his and confessed to the killing of his wife. That same number also reported the shooting to county 9-1-1. He said that he testified in his own defense to tell the actual story and as an effort to bring closure to his wife’s family. He stated as for him, “he could not give a s—“. Closing arguments for the defense pointed to expert witness findings opposite of prosecution findings. Prosecutor arguments asked jurors to use common sense based on all of their expert testimony and the lack of logic in Edmonds’ testimony. The jury is currently deliberating.
