Hamas Says It Fired Rockets From Gaza

May 26, 2024 7:32 am

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Rocket sirens sounded across central Israel, including in Tel Aviv, for the first time in months on Sunday, as Hamas claimed to have fired a barrage of rockets from Gaza. The militants have continued to fire projectiles at communities around Gaza more than seven months into the war but have not fired longer-range rockets in months. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the latest barrage. Earlier on Sunday, aid trucks entered Gaza from southern Israel through a new agreement to bypass the Rafah crossing with Egypt after Israeli forces seized the Palestinian side of it earlier this month. But was unclear if humanitarian groups would be able to access the aid because of ongoing fighting in the area.  (Photo:  AP)

The vast majority of retailers will be open, with many trying to lure customers with big promotional sales. Hours may vary by location.

Somerset County Man Home After Being Detained

May 26, 2024 7:17 am

(WPXI) – A Somerset County man who spent 101 days detained in Turks and Caicos is home.  Bryan Hagerich arrived at Pittsburgh International Airport just after 9:30 Friday evening and ran into the arms of his two small children.  Hagerich faced up to 12 years in prison after he was found with hunting ammunition on his way out of the country. Early Friday, a judge ruled the ammunition was brought in unintentionally and gave him a suspended sentence.  His release comes after a major effort here at home. Congressman Guy Reschenthaler and Senator John Fetterman were part of a delegation that traveled to the Caribbean earlier this week to lobby for the release of Hagerich and other detained Americans.  “On Monday when we left the island, we weren’t sure that Bryan was going to be released,” Reschenthaler said.  “Just as a father, as a husband, to be reunited after 101 days. I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders,” Hagerich said.  He also shared a message to the families of the remaining American detainees: “Keep praying.”
