Pittsburgh Teen Shot In Face

PITTSBURGH (WPXI) — Police are investigating after a 15-year-old was shot in the face in Pittsburgh’s Perry North neighborhood. According to Allegheny County 911, police and EMS units were called to the scene in the 3700 block of Baytree Street at 4:48 p.m. Wednesday. Police told Channel 11 that the shooting happened inside of a house. The victim is in stable condition. Police said the preliminary investigation reveals that the cause is accidental.

Four Philadelphia High School Students Shot

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Four students are injured from an apparent drive-by shooting shortly after their Philadelphia high school let out early for the day. A city schools spokesperson said Wednesday one was shot in the shoulder, one in the knee and two suffered graze wounds. The shooting took place about a block from Overbrook High School in West Philadelphia. City police say the victims are in stable condition and receiving hospital treatment. The shooting occurred about 11:30 a.m., after school let out early for parent-teacher conferences.

Walmart Manager Opens Fire In Break Room, Killing 6

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) — Police and witnesses say a manager at a Virginia Walmart pulled out a handgun before a routine employee meeting and began firing wildly in the break room, killing six people and injuring at least six others. It was the country’s second high-profile mass shooting in four days. Police in Chesapeake say the gunman, who apparently shot himself, was dead when they found him. He was identified as 31-year-old Andre Bing, an overnight team lead who had been with Walmart since 2010. There was no clear motive for Tuesday night’s shooting. Employee Briana Tyler says the stocking team gathered in the break room when Bing turned around and opened fire on the staff.

Colorado Gay Club Shooting Suspect Appears In Court

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – A witness to a shooting at a Colorado Springs gay nightclub says the suspect showed “no hesitation” when entering Club Q and opening fire. Deanne VanScyoc says the shooter wearing body armor moved in a crouch through the club with a rifle at eye-level, firing at people gathered at the bar then spraying a dance floor with bullets. Authorities say five people were killed and 17 injured by gunfire in the weekend rampage at Club Q, a well-known gathering place for the LGBTQ community in Colorado Springs. The suspect was ordered to be held without bail during an initial court appearance Wednesday.

Strike On Ukrainian Maternity Hospital Kills Newborn

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – Ukrainian authorities say an overnight rocket attack has struck a hospital maternity ward in southern Ukraine, killing a newborn baby, Its mother and a doctor were pulled alive from the rubble. The region’s governor said the rockets were Russian. The strike in the city of Vilniansk adds to the gruesome toll suffered by hospitals and other medical facilities – and their patients and staff – in the Russian invasion entering its tenth month this week. They have been in the firing line from the outset, including a March 9 airstrike that destroyed a maternity hospital in the now-occupied port city of Mariupol.

Supreme Court OKs Handover Of Trump Tax Returns

WASHINGTON (AP) – The last legal obstacle preventing Congress from obtaining Donald Trump’s taxes has fallen. On Tuesday the Supreme Court rejected the former president’s plea for an order to prevent the Treasury Department from giving six years of tax returns for Trump and some of his businesses to the Democratic-controlled House Ways and Means Committee. The Biden administration has argued that federal law is clear that the committee has the right to examine any taxpayer’s return. In a message on his social media network, Trump says the Supreme Court’s action creates “terrible precedent for future Presidents.” He accuses the court of becoming “nothing more than a political body” with the country paying the price.

Massive Fire Destroys Pool Business

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — (WPXI) – A swimming pool business was destroyed in a massive fire on Freeport Road. According to Allegheny County 911, crews were called to the scene of the 4-alarm blaze at 2:14 p.m. Residents and business owners within a half-mile radius of the massive fire in Harrison Township were told to evacuate the area due to “unknown chemicals” that were burned in the blaze. WPXI crews at the scene learned that people were sent to Citizens Hose Ambulance Service in Natrona Heights after evacuating. All local residents have been cleared to return to their homes. Officials said there may be lingering odors in the immediate area of the fire building and the site will continue to be monitored. The owner of the business, Col. John Placek, has owned the location for 23 years. He said he’s happy no one got hurt, and is thankful for the work of firefighters. “It’s sad that it burnt down, but you know, we can always rebuild and we will rebuild and we’ll be bigger and better,” Placek said. No injuries have been reported at this time.

 

North Strabane Twp Approves Preliminary Budget

North Strabane Township Supervisors met Tuesday night and the final order of business was to approve the preliminary budget for 2023. The spending plan is a balanced $34 million proposal that is actually $2 million less than last year. Certainly, that comes as good news to residents as no tax increase will be levied. Supervisors will formally adopt the budget at their next voting meeting in December. In other business, supervisors approved a change in their administration ordinance that eliminates the position of police chief and defines the police department as officers and leadership personnel as determined by the board of supervisors as necessary. Supervisors then went on to appoint a new sergeant. Officer Timothy Bliss was elevated to the rank of sergeant. He is a 27 year veteran police officer who has served with North Strabane Township for the last six years.

Boxes Of Love Distributed By City Mission

The City Mission distributed their “Boxes of Love” on Monday to food insecure people in Washington. The distribution began at 5:00 pm with people lining up in front of the chapel to receive their box. The boxes contained a 15 pound turkey, a box of potatoes, stuffing, a dessert and a board game. New this year to the boxes are hand made greeting cards from the students at Wylandville Elementary School in the Canon-McMillan School District. On hand to help hand out boxes were volunteers from the Pennsylvania American Water Company. Not only did PAWC offer muscle, this is the third year that they have contributed $10,000 to the 2000 Turkeys Campaign. Board members from Shepherd’s Finance were on hand. Shepherd’s Finance was responsible for the purchase of the turkeys and they made a monetary donation as well. Nearly 800 “Boxes of Love” were prepared and 300 of them were scheduled to be distributed on Monday night. Director and CEO of the City Mission, Dean Gartland said that this is a program that they became involved with several years ago and the need has only grown over the last several years. He is grateful to the volunteers and donors that helped make this holiday special for the food insecure in Washington County.
