November 17, 2022 4:38 pm

(WPXI) – Officials with Ticketmaster announced in a statement Thursday that they were cancelling the public sale of tickets for Taylor Swift’s upcoming “The Eras Tour” after unprecedented demand for pre-sale tickets caused the company’s website to crash Tuesday. In a statement obtained by CNN, Ticketmaster officials said that “due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow’s public on-sale for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour has been cancelled.” More than 2 million tickets were sold for Swift shows on Tuesday — the most ever sold for an artist on a single day, according to Ticketmaster.

Pelosi Won’t Seek Leadership Role In New Congress

November 17, 2022 12:53 pm

WASHINGTON (AP) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she will not seek a leadership role in the new Congress. Pelosi’s decision Thursday comes after Democrats lost the House majority to Republicans in the midterm elections and after the brutal attack on her husband, Paul, by an intruder at their San Francisco home. Pelosi’s decision makes way for a new generation of House Democratic leaders. Pelosi is expected to stay on as a member of Congress, having won reelection from her California district. Pelosi was the first woman to seize the speaker’s gavel, breaking what she called the “marble ceiling.” She led passage of the Affordable Care Act with President Barack Obama and twice impeached President Donald Trump.  (Photo:  AP)

Poland, NATO Say Missile Strike Wasn’t A Russian Attack

November 17, 2022 4:24 am

PRZEWODOW, Poland (AP) – NATO’s chief and the president of Poland say there are no indications that a missile that fell on Polish farmland and killed two people was a deliberate attack. They said that Ukraine likely launched the Soviet-era projectile as it was fending off a Russian air assault. Tuesday’s incident came as Russia launched missiles and drones that savaged Ukraine’s power grid. Poland said the missile was Russian-made. U.S. President Joe Biden said it was “unlikely” that Russia fired it. Ukraine’s president said he did not believe the missile was Ukrainian and asked for more evidence. The NATO chief and others laid overall but not specific blame on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war.

GOP Wins Slim House Majority, Complicating Agenda

November 17, 2022 4:18 am

WASHINGTON (AP) – Republicans have won control of the U.S. House, returning the party to power in Washington and giving conservatives leverage to blunt President Joe Biden’s agenda and spur a flurry of investigations. But a threadbare majority will pose immediate challenges for GOP leaders and complicate the party’s ability to govern. More than a week after Election Day, Republicans secured the 218th seat needed to flip the House. The full scope of the party’s majority may not be clear for several more days – or weeks – as votes in competitive races are still being counted.
