Tensions Rising Ahead Of Bali Summit

November 13, 2022 8:12 am

NUSA DUA, Indonesia (AP) — A showdown between Presidents Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin isn’t happening, but the fallout from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and growing tensions between China and the West will be at the fore when leaders of the world’s biggest economies gather in tropical Bali this week. The Group of 20 members begin their talks on the Indonesian resort island Tuesday under the hopeful theme of “recover together, recover stronger.” But the summit’s focus on topics such as health, sustainable energy and digital transformation is likely to be overshadowed by fears of a sputtering global economy and geopolitical tensions. While the U.S. and its allies square off against China, emerging economies like India, Brazil and host Indonesia walk a tightrope between bigger powers.

Police Still Investigating Kennywood Shooting

November 13, 2022 8:10 am

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. (WPXI) – Just days after charges were dismissed against the teen charged in the Kennywood park shooting, detectives have said they are still looking for other witnesses and suspects. One suspect they are investigating is a teen who was found with the second gun fired that night. The same night Allegheny County Police charged 15-year-old Darryl Pirl with the shooting at Kennywood’s Phantom Fall Fest, sources say Penn Hills police made a traffic stop and found a teenager with the second gun that was fired in the shooting. Authorities did not release that information to the public at the county news conference the next day. The investigation of the second teen was not released until Pirl’s preliminary hearing this week when a county detective testified under oath the second gun fired was found during a traffic stop on a teenager in Penn Hills. So, at this time, no one is charged in the shooting at Kennywood which left an innocent man with a gunshot wound, caused chaos at the park and prompted major security charges for anyone who enters. This has put some pressure on the police, who have said they believe the violence at Kennywood stemmed from ongoing feuds between teenagers in the Mon Valley. The county’s assistant superintendent said the concerns about the feuds and violence are constant, but they do not have specific information as it relates to this case.

Trump Sues Jan. 6 Committee Over Subpoena

November 12, 2022 3:50 am

(ABC News) – Former President Trump has sued to block the Jan. 6. committee subpoena for documents and testimony.  The committee last Friday extended the deadline for Trump to comply with their documents request by one week. The initial deadline was Nov. 4. The committee also asked Trump to appear for a deposition on Monday, Nov. 14.  As ABC News previously reported, this move was expected by Trump’s team to attempt to run out the clock on the subpoena before Republicans potentially retake the House following the 2022 midterm elections.  Trump’s lawyers argue in their lawsuit that he retains immunity as a former president and that while other presidents and former presidents have voluntarily agreed to testify before Congress, his legal team claims that no president has been compelled to do so.  They describe the committee subpoena as “invalid” because they say it does not further a legislative purpose and claim it was overly broad and infringes on his First Amendment rights.
