Grim Backdrop For U.N. Climate Talks

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt (AP) — Envoys from around the globe gathered Sunday in the Egyptian seaside resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for talks on tackling climate change amid a multitude of competing crises. Negotiators spent a frantic two days ahead of the meeting discussing whether to formally consider the issue of loss and damage suffered by vulnerable nations due to climate change. The issue, which has weighed on the talks for years, was agreed just hours before the meeting offically opened. In an opening speech, the head of the U.N.’s panel of climate scientist highlighted the urgency of cutting greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to the effects of global warming. Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi said his country wants the talks to move from the “pledges phase to the implantation phase.”

All are now members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame after a rousing show Saturday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. They’re joined in the Hall by Carly Simon, Eurythmics and Dolly Parton, who felt like she didn’t deserve the honor and wrote a rock song for the occasion. Duran Duran overcame technical glitches to thrill a room full of its fans. Richie’s set went from the mellow ballad “Hello” to the celebration of “All Night Long.” Benatar showed off her powerful pipes with “Love is a Battlefield.” Eminem brought on Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler to sing the chorus of “Dream On” for 2003′s “Sing for the Moment.”

Trump Holds Rally In Latrobe

LATROBE, Pa. (WPXI) — Former President Donald Trump stumped for statewide candidates at a rally at the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe Saturday. Thousands gathered at a hangar there to hear the former president and catch a glimpse of statewide candidates Dr. Mehmet Oz and Doug Mastriano. Trump stressed the importance of regaining control in Washington, hinting that he’ll announce soon whether he’s running for another term in The White House. He spoke for about two hours, headlining the event. Oz and Mastriano spoke earlier. We spoke to several voters who were at the rally. They unanimously listed the economy as the main reason they plan to vote Republican, Tuesday. Oz is currently polling in a virtual tie with opponent Lt. Gov. John Fetterman. Mastriano trails Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, according to the latest numbers.

Obama Holds Rally In Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Democratic Party’s most powerful voices are warning that abortion, Social Security and democracy itself are at risk as they labor to overcome fierce political headwinds over the final weekend of the 2022 campaign. At a rally in Pittsburgh, former President Barack Obama told several hundred voters that “sulking and moping is not an option.” Looking ahead to Election Day on Tuesday, he said, “The only way to save democracy is if we, together, fight for it.” In Philadelphia, President Joe Biden joined Obama at another rally. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump campaigned in southwest Pennsylvania to boost Republicans, calling the U.S. “a country in decline” under Democrats.

Police Search For Alleged Armed Robber

East Washington police are asking for your help in looking for an individual possibly involved in an armed robbery. Police are looking for 30 year old Peter Paul Dott, IV. He is a white male and is wanted by Washington city police and in Allegheny County. He was associated with two black males in the East Washington robbery. At least two firearms were involved in the robbery. Dott is to be considered armed and dangerous. If you have any information about Dott or his whereabouts contact county 9-1-1. Do not try to apprehend him yourself.

Structure Fire In Claysville

A structure fire broke out just before 4:00 AM on Saturday in Claysville. The fire was located at 260 Main Street, the home of Diane Adams Art Studios. There were reports of entrapment. Four adults and two children were rescued according to County 9-1-1 officials. No one was transported to the hospital. Fire Departments from Claysville, Taylorstown, West Alexander, South Franklin, South Strabane and Washington were called. The Red Cross is there to help victims. The situation is under control and departments have returned to their bases. The Fire Marshall is on the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.

Biden Stumps On Job Growth, As Voters Dread Inflation

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Joe Biden has notched an envious record on jobs, with 10.3 million gained during his tenure. But voters in Tuesday’s midterm elections are far more focused on inflation hovering near 40-year highs. Biden is asking voters to look beyond the current financial pain. He says that what matters are the job gains that he believes his policies are fostering. The government reported Friday that employers added 261,000 jobs in October as the unemployment rate bumped up to 3.7%. Biden says, “America is reasserting itself.” But he adds: “We also know folks are still struggling with inflation. It’s our number one priority.”

N. Korea Fires More Missiles As US Flies Bombers Over South

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) – North Korea has added to its recent barrage of weapons demonstrations by launching four ballistic missiles into the sea while the United States sent two supersonic bombers over South Korea in a dueling display of military might. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff says the four short-range missiles fired Saturday flew about 80 miles toward the country’s western sea. North Korea has test-fired more than 30 missiles this week, including an intercontinental ballistic missile on Thursday that triggered evacuation alerts in northern Japan. It also flew large numbers of warplanes inside its territory in an angry reaction to a massive combined aerial exercise between the United States and South Korea. It included two B-1B bombers for the first time since 2017.

Russia Cafe Blaze Kills At Least 13 People, Injures 5

MOSCOW (AP) – Russian authorities say a fire in a cafe in the Russian city of Kostroma killed at least 13 people and injured five others. The governor of the Kostroma region said 13 people died in the fire and five more were slightly injured. Russian news agency Interfax cited local emergency officials as saying that the death toll stood at 15. The contradicting numbers couldn’t be immediately reconciled. The blaze erupted in the early hours after someone apparently used a flare gun. Rescuers were able to evacuate 250 people. Kostroma is located roughly 340 kilometers (210 miles) north of Moscow. A criminal investigation has been launched and a suspect has been apprehended.
