Deadly July 4th Parade Shooting Had Been Preplanned

July 5, 2022 4:19 am

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (AP) –  The gunman who attacked an Independence Day parade in suburban Chicago fired more than 70 rounds with an AR-15-style gun that killed at least seven people. That’s according to authorities, who said Tuesday that the shooter then evaded initial capture by dressing as a woman and blending into the fleeing crowd. Christopher Covelli is a spokesman for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force. He told a news conference that the suspect used a legally purchased high-powered rifle to spray bullets from atop a commercial building into a crowd that had gathered for the parade. More than 30 people were wounded. Covelli said their suspect, Robert “Bobby” E. Crimo III, 21, spent several weeks planning the assault.

Flight Cancellations Ease Slightly

July 5, 2022 4:15 am

DALLAS (AP) – The number of U.S. flights being canceled is slowing down, but plenty of travelers are facing long delays as they try to get home from trips over the July Fourth holiday weekend. By late Monday afternoon on the East Coast, more than 2,200 U.S. flights had been delayed and more than 200 were canceled, according to FlightAware. The good news is, that’s fewer delays and cancellations than we’ve seen in recent days. Industry experts say airlines are struggling because demand for travel has recovered from the bottom of the pandemic faster than anyone expected. That’s causing airports to be almost as crowded as they were in 2019, before the pandemic.

ORC is a growing challenge across the country and impacts not only our stores and our associates, but our customers and our communities. We’re seeing an increasing number of incidents involving wire theft from our stores and these stolen items being sold by well-organized criminal groups on online platforms and sites that provide them anonymity. Police said the suspect got into a silver Honda Accord and took off. Shoppers are certain that with a description of the suspect’s car and his picture out in the public, his crimes will come to a swift end.
