LELAND, Miss. (AP) — High school homecoming celebrations in Mississippi ended with two separate shootings on Friday night. Authorities report at least eight people dead and many others injured. In Leland, six people were killed and about 20 were injured after a football game. Four of the injured are in critical condition. State Senator Derrick Simmons described the scene as chaotic. No arrests have been made, and authorities are seeking information. In Heidelberg, two people were killed on a school campus during homecoming. Five Injured As Helicopter Crashes In Southern California

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A helicopter that was coasting above a Southern California beach suddenly lost control and began spiraling, eventually losing altitude and slamming into a row of palms as sunbathers and beachgoers looked on. Multiple videos posted online show the aircraft twirling clockwise above Huntington Beach, then plunging toward the edge of the beach, where it becomes wedged between palms and a staircase near Pacific coast Highway. The Huntington Beach Fire Department said five people were hospitalized, including two who were in the helicopter and were “safely pulled from the wreckage.” Three other people on the street were injured.

China, Trump Stand Firm Amid Tariff Threats

The Commerce Ministry said Sunday that China prefers negotiations over threats, but is not afraid of a tariff war. Trump has threatened to increase taxes on Chinese imports by November 1st, due to new Chinese restrictions on rare earth exports. These tensions could derail a potential meeting between Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Both countries accuse each other of violating a trade truce. China criticized the U.S. for frequently resorting to tariff threats, urging dialogue instead.

Two people shot on North Main in Washington

A 20-year-old man was shot and killed early Saturday in the 100 block of North Main Street in the city of Washington, according to Washington County Coroner Tim Warco. Julian Lassic of Washington was pronounced dead at 3:40 a.m. at Washington hospital, the coroner said. Another person also was shot and taken a Pittsburgh hospital, police said. No arrests have been made. Joe Vucic, the owner of Joe’s Bakery, said he saw one of the victims lying on the sidewalk in back of his business. Washington Mayor JoJo Burgess said the shooting was not random, and that there was no ongoing threat to the  public. Canonsburg Man Facing Homicide Trial

A Canonsburg man will face trial for a fatal shooting that occurred on Giffin Avenue on September 6. Kristopher Moorehouse, 20 had charges of homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment held for court at his preliminary hearing. Moorehouse is accused of shooting 25 year old Brady Paul at a party being held in the house. According to a witness, DeAngelo Perkins, a scuffle over unwanted romantic advances by Paul to be intimate with Moorehouse’s girlfriend Gianna Abajace broke out. Perkins testified to seeing the scuffle and hearing gunshots but not seeing who shot Paul. Abajace testified to the unwanted advances and hearing but not seeing three gunshots. Canonsburg Police Sgt. Anthony Cancilla testified that during an interview, Moorehouse admitted to shooting Paul twice in self-defense. Moorehouse remains in the Washington County Jail without bond.

Doctors Say Trump In ‘Exceptional Health’

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is in “exceptional health,” according to his physician, who evaluated him Friday. Trump underwent a checkup at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The visit included lab tests, preventive health assessments, a flu shot and a COVID-19 booster. Navy Capt. The deal has raised hopes for ending the Israel-Hamas war, with all the remaining hostages taken in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack set to be released within days. Questions remain over who will govern Gaza as Israeli troops gradually pull back and whether Hamas will disarm, as called for in U.S. President Donald Trump’s ceasefire plan. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who unilaterally ended a ceasefire in March, hinted that Israel might renew its offensive if Hamas does not give up its weapons.

Blast At Tenn. Explosives Plant Investigated
