BLUE BELL, Pa. (AP) — The Rev. James Kelly baptized and married thousands of people, ministered to the ill at hospitals, and traveled the world. He became friends with an opera superstar and with a saint. Kelly is the longest-serving priest in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He recently celebrated the 75th anniversary of his ordination and his 100th birthday. He’s grateful and tries to make each day count. He listens to opera. He bakes pies. And he still wakes up at dawn every day to say Catholic Mass at the retired living community that he calls home.

Thousands of protesters have gathered in Thailand’s capital demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The demonstration Saturday in Bangkok is part of brewing political turmoil set off by a leaked phone call between Paetongtarn and former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. Paetongtarn is facing growing dissatisfaction over her handling of a recent border dispute with Cambodia, which killed a Cambodian solider and prompted the call with Hun Sen. The call has set off a string of investigations that could lead to Paetongtarn’s removal. Many protesters were part of a royalist, conservative group that has been a longtime foe of Paetongtarn’s father, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

In an article published on June 26, 2025, on wjpa.com, it was stated that Leo McIntyre, who was charged with multiple counts of child sexual assault, was employed by the Goldfish Swim School in Peters Township at the time the charges were filed – in December of 2022. That statement is inaccurate; McIntyre had been fired by the school in June of 2022, on unrelated issues and none of the victims had attended the school. WJPA apologizes for the inaccurate statement and regrets our error.

A divided U.S. Supreme Court ruled that individual judges lack the authority to grant nationwide injunctions, but the decision left unclear the fate of President Donald Trump’s restrictions on birthright citizenship. Cases on the court’s emergency docket are handled swiftly, and decisions often come without explanations of the justices’ reasoning. Decisions released on Friday will be related to appeals on birthright citizenship, an online age verification law in Texas, the Education Department’s firing of nearly 1,400 workers and DOGE-related government job cuts.

A Claysville man has been charged with three counts of terroristic threats. Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh says 26 year old Matthew Boyd threatened to “go into the Washington County Courthouse and shoot people” during a consultation phone call with a law firm on Thursday. Walsh says he then contacted the Sheriff’s office and detectives then found Boyd in the yard of a home in the 800-block of Ewing Street in Canton Township. Walsh tells WJPA News that Boyd became “irate and confrontational” and told detectives “it was his second amendment right to shoot up the courthouse since they represent the government”. He also threatened to shoot up UPMC Washington Hospital. Boyd was taken into custody and is last reported lodged in the Washington County jail. Walsh commended the efforts of his detectives, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Washington Police for their quick response to the threats.
