Storms Hit Western Pennsylvania

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Severe Storms rolled through western Pennsylvania Wednesday evening, leaving thousands in the dark and some damage in the area. Washington County was mainly spared from the worst of the storms. The hardest hit areas included Hanover and Union Townships, which account for most of the power outages as of 3:00 a.m. Thursday morning. Locally, there were no reports of major damage and roughly 130 power outages in the county. Tree and power line damage was prevalent in Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties, which account for over 9,000 power outages Thursday morning.

Former Pitt, NFL Veteran Tony Siragusa Dead At 55

Tony Siragusa, the charismatic defensive tackle who helped lead a stout Baltimore defense to a Super Bowl title, died Wednesday. He was 55. Siragusa’s broadcast agent, Jim Ornstein, confirmed the death Wednesday. The cause of death was not immediately available. The man known as “the Goose” was a University of Pittsburgh Panther before he played seven seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and five with the Ravens. Baltimore’s 2000 team won the Super Bowl behind a defense that included Siragusa, Ray Lewis and Sam Adams. Siragusa was popular with fans because of his fun-loving personality, which also helped him transition to broadcasting after his playing career.

County Man Pleads Guilty To Possession Of Child Porn

WASHINGTON, Pa. — A North Charleroi man pleaded guilty to ten counts of possession of child pornography. John Eckert, 61 entered his open plea on Wednesday avoiding trial on as many as 35 child pornography charges and five charges of criminal use of a communications device. Eckert’s computer was found to contain multiple images of child pornography when his home was raided by the Department of Homeland Security and Charleroi Regional Police in May of 2021. Eckert will be sentenced on October 13 pending a pre-sentencing investigation. Eckert could serve 12-24 months in state prison for each charge. He will also be required to be registered as a sex offender, possibly for life.

Kennywood, Sandcastle & Idlewild Going Cashless

Starting next week, cash will no longer be welcome at Kennywood, Sandcastle or Idlewild.  Officials at all three parks say that starting June 28th, cash will no longer be accepted.  Officials say the parks will then only accept credit, debit, prepaid cards or secure mobile payments.  They say the move to accept only cards or secure mobile payments will allow them to provide a more efficient experience to guests.  They say they expect to see wait times decrease for food and retails stores.  They also said that Cash-to-Card Kiosks will be located throughout each park to provide guests with a simple and easy way to convert their cash into a card.  They say the kiosks will be free of charge and will allow an individual to convert up to five-hundred-dollars in cash to a prepaid card that can then be used throughout the park.

Legislature Advancing Proposal To Change Primary Date

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Proposals to hold Pennsylvania’s presidential primaries in March rather than April and to permit poll watchers to operate outside the counties where they live are advancing in the Legislature. A divided House State Government Committee voted to send both bills to the full House. They’ve already passed the state Senate. Pennsylvania’s primary during presidential election years would be moved from the fourth Tuesday in April to the third Tuesday in March.  The poll watchers’ bill would give candidates an additional observer and says they can be posted close enough to see any canvassing and pre-canvassing.

One Dead In San Francisco Subway Shooting

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – San Francisco police say one man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting on a crowded subway train. Supervisor Rafael Mandelman says there was an altercation Wednesday between people on a San Francisco Muni train around 10 a.m. The perpetrator ran out of the train along with others when it stopped at the Castro station in the city’s famous gay neighborhood, which is packed ahead of upcoming Pride festivities. The second man who was shot is believed to have been an innocent bystander. Police said it was the first shooting they could recall on a Muni train.

Jurors Find Bill Cosby Guilty In Civil Trial

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) – Civil trial jurors have found that Bill Cosby sexually abused a 16-year-old girl at the Playboy Mansion in 1975. The Los Angeles County jury delivered the verdict Tuesday in favor of Judy Huth, who is now 64, and awarded her $500,000. The jury’s decision is a major legal defeat for the 84-year-old Cosby. It comes nearly a year after his Pennsylvania criminal conviction for sexual assault was thrown out and he was freed from prison. Cosby did not attend the Los Angeles trial. He has repeatedly denied Huth’s allegations that he forced her to perform a sex act at the mansion.  (Photo:  AP)

Canonsburg Police Holding Training Sessions

The Canonsburg Police Department wants to make residents aware of training sessions set to take place Wednesday in the borough. The department posted the update to Facebook Tuesday, saying there will be police training Wednesday morning and early afternoon at the South Central Elementary School. If you live in the area, you may see a large police presence and hear gunshot simulations. Police want the public to know these are just training sessions.

New Footage In Hands Of Jan. 6th Committee

WASHINGTON (AP) – New footage of former President Donald Trump and his inner circle taken both before and after Jan. 6, 2021, is now in the possession of the House committee investigating the deadly attack on the Capitol. The revelation of the never-before-seen footage came to light Tuesday amidst the committee’s public hearings. British filmmaker Alex Holder revealed on Twitter that he had complied with a congressional subpoena sent last week to turn over all the footage he shot in the final weeks of Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign. He said he plans to go in for a deposition with lawmakers on Thursday.

Georgia Election Worker Gives 2020 Testimony

WASHINGTON (AP) – A former Georgia election worker in gripping testimony has told the House Jan. 6 committee about the onslaught of threats that she and her family received after former President Trump and his allies falsely accused her and her mother of pulling fraudulent ballots from a suitcase. Wandrea “Shaye” Moss told lawmakers Tuesday how her life was upended when Trump and his allies latched onto surveillance footage from November 2020 to accuse her and her mother of committing voter fraud, allegations that were quickly debunked. The committee also heard from high-ranking elections officials in Georgia and a lawmaker in Arizona who were also on the wrong end of Trump’s pressure campaign.
