(WPXI) HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General reports significant progress has been made in restoring its operations after a cyberattack earlier this month. The attack involved an outsider encrypting files to demand a ransom payment, which the office has not paid. Communications were temporarily disrupted, but most staff now have access to email, and the main phone line and website are operational. The Office of Attorney General, which employs approximately 1,200 people across 17 offices in the Commonwealth, is continuing its work, though some tasks are being performed through alternate methods. Courts have issued time extensions on certain criminal and civil cases due to the incident, but no prosecutions or proceedings are expected to be negatively impacted solely because of the cyber attack. The office is actively investigating the attack in collaboration with other agencies, which limits the ability to disclose further details about the investigation or response.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo (AP) — Missouri’s Republican governor is calling a special legislative session to redraw the state’s U.S. House districts. The announcement Friday by Gov. Mike Kehoe comes as President Donald Trump has been urging Republican-led states to reshape district lines to give the party a better shot at retaining control of Congress in next year’s elections. It came hours after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law a new U.S. House map that gives the GOP a chance at winning five additional seats. Democratic lawmakers in California have countered with a redistricting plan giving Democrats a chance at winning five more seats there. The California plan still needs voter approval.

SALEM TOWNSHIP (WPXI) — Pennsylvania State Police have released new details about their search for a man accused of placing a homemade bomb under his former landlord’s lawnmower. James M. Sever, 54, was charged with attempted homicide in that incident. State police think he may still be in the Salem Township area, where the explosion happened. On Friday, Troopers said they believe he could be going to an area to charge an electric bike while on the run. “He’s still most likely utilizing his electric bicycle, which obviously would take him somewhere to have to get it charged up. So we’re still working on that and following up on every tip that comes in,” said state trooper Steve Limani. On Aug 22, the home where Sever used to live, on the same property where the explosion happened, went up in flames.

Tennessee (AP)– Tennessee authorities say a cold-case investigation reveals that a sheriff who inspired a Hollywood movie about an organized crime-busting law enforcement officer actually killed his wife in 1967 and led people to believe she was murdered by his enemies. Prosecutors said Friday that there is enough evidence that if former McNairy County Sheriff Buford Pusser were alive today, they would present an indictment to a grand jury for the murder of his wife, Pauline Mullins Pusser. Investigators also said they uncovered signs that Pauline suffered from domestic violence. Authorities acknowledged that the news may shock many who grew up as Buford’s fans and watched the 1973 “Walking Tall” movie he inspired.
