Crews Almost Hit Responding To Accident

April 2, 2023 8:09 am

FALLOWFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Fallowfield Fire crews responded to a vehicle accident on Interstate 70 Saturday during the severe weather and were almost involved in their own accident. Officials say early warning vehicles were established ahead of the crash scene, but a large and out-of-control vehicle was reportedly moving at a high rate of speed and could not slow down in time. That vehicle had to swerve into the next lane to narrowly avoid hitting crews from Fallowfield. The fire company reminds residents to slow down in an emergency situation and being distracted while driving could lead to someone dying. (Photo: Fallowfield Fire Company Facebook Page)

April 2, 2023 8:01 am

PITTSBURGH (WPXI) — Thousands are still without power after harsh wind storms ripped wires to the ground and broke countless poles in half on Saturday. West Penn Power reported thousands of power outages throughout multiple counties. As of 8:00 a.m. Sunday, Washington County had just over 8,000 homes still in the dark. The hardest-hit municipalities included Monongahela, New Eagle, Carroll Township, Cecil Township, Chartiers Township, Donora and Amwell Township. The storms knocked out power for around 40,000 Duquesne Light Customers on Saturday. The company said they had fixed more than 25,000 of those outages by 11 p.m. Duquesne Light Company has not released an official estimate on when they expect to be done working but says 100 crews will be working overnight. Anyone without power should avoid opening their fridge unless they have to and should throw away dairy, meat and poultry if they do not have power for longer than four hours. People are reminded not to approach downed power lines. Anyone experiencing an emergency during a power outage should contact 911 for help. (Photo: Chartiers Township Fire Department Facebook Page)

Friday’s report from the Commerce Department showed that consumer prices rose 0.3% from January to February, down from a 0.6% increase from December to January. Measured year-over-year, prices rose 5%, slower than the 5.3% annual increase in January. The report also showed that consumer spending rose 0.2% from January to February, a drop from a month earlier but an indication that households are still providing fuel for economic growth.
