Trump Threatens To Jail Adversaries

September 8, 2024 6:50 am

MOSINEE, Wis. (AP) — Former President Donald Trump posted a warning on his social media site threatening to jail those “involved in unscrupulous behavior” this election, which he said would be under intense scrutiny. Trump wrote late Saturday: “WHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again.” He again sowed doubt about the integrity of the election, even though cheating is incredibly rare. Trump’s post comes just days before his first — and likely only — debate against Vice President Kamala Harris.

Mother Of Georgia Shooting Suspect Called School

September 8, 2024 6:47 am

A relative of the Georgia high school shooting suspect says the teenager’s mother called the school before the killings. Annie Brown, the suspect’s aunt, told the Washington Post that his mother called Apalachee High School about 30 minutes before the Wednesday shooting to warn them of an emergency involving her son. Brown has confirmed the reporting to The Associated Press but declined to comment further. Her nephew, 14-year-old Colt Gray, has been charged with murder over the fatal shooting of two students and two teachers. His father, Colin Gray, is accused of second-degree murder for providing his son with a semiautomatic AR 15-style rifle. Their attorneys declined to immediately seek bail during their first court appearance on Friday.

Some of the victims were injured in a vehicle accident. Weddle says there were no immediate fatalities. The interstate was initially closed to traffic but later reopened.

Shooting At West Bank-Jordan Border Kills 3 Israelis

September 8, 2024 6:40 am

ALLENBY CROSSING, West Bank (AP) — Israeli officials say three people were fatally shot at the border crossing between the West Bank and Jordan. The military said the gunman on Sunday approached the Allenby Bridge Crossing from the Jordanian side in a truck and opened fire at Israeli security forces, who killed the assailant. It said the three killed were Israeli civilians. Israeli first responders said the victims were men in their 50s. There was no immediate comment from Jordan, which made peace with Israel in 1994 but is fiercely critical of its policies toward the Palestinians. In Gaza, meanwhile, an Israeli airstrike killed five people, including two women, two children and a senior Civil Defense official.

Oh Deer! We Have A Problem

September 8, 2024 1:53 am

Over 100 members of the local farming community took time on a sunny, September day to  spend 3 hours in an exhibit hall sharing concerns about the exploding deer population. The Washington County Fairgrounds was the site of the meeting organized by state representative Anita Kulik, whose district covers Bridgeville and Robinson Township. About 14 officials from across the state listened as farmers made their pleas and came up with possible solutions to address the damage the deer are causing to their crops and property. The Executive Director of Pennsylvania State Game Commission, Steve Smith, along with various legislators, including Representatives Tim O’Neil, Washington County commissioners Larry Maggi, Nick Sherman and Greene County Representative Bud Cook all listened as members of the farming community communicated the hardships they are facing due to deer damage. Pennsylvania is not alone in this problem; mild winters, urban sprawl and a drop in the number of hunters has contributed to the abundance of deer across the country. Discussed solutions include extended deer season, increased tag allowances per person, incentives for hunting and even fencing for properties. Farmers say it’s about education. As cute as the deer may be; feeding them and encouraging them to stay on your property only compounds the problem.

September 8, 2024 6:34 am

PITTSBURGH —(WPXI)- The family of Marc Fogel attended a panel discussion about hostage diplomacy at the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday. Fogel has been imprisoned in Russia since 2021. The panel was hosted by the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies among others. International experts spoke at the Frick Fine Arts building. A former board member at the school where Fogel was set to teach shared his insight and accused the Russian government of shutting down and “stealing” the school. “It was a center for thought and ideas and international engagement in the middle of the Russian capital that not just had an enormous impact on the kids who went there but made a real contribution to Russia, frankly,” Ambassador Eric Rubin said. The US still has not declared Fogel as “wrongfully detained” despite his family’s efforts.

The amendment modernizes the regulatory term “advertisement” to clearly include online statements and representations. In addition, motor vehicle dealers must inspect each vehicle within 30 days of when it enters their inventory for certain unsafe conditions like flood damage and bent frames. If any of the unsafe conditions exist on a vehicle, they must be declared in writing prior to the sale. The written disclosure is required even if the vehicle is being sold in “As Is” condition.

Two Astronauts Left Behind In Space

September 7, 2024 4:13 am

Boeing’s first astronaut mission is finally over. The company’s empty Starliner capsule landed in the New Mexico desert late Friday night, with its two test pilots left behind at the International Space Station. NASA judged their return too risky and booked SpaceX to bring them home. That won’t happen until next year, more than eight months after they launched on Starliner. They were supposed to be away for just eight days, but thruster trouble and helium leaks marred their trip to the space station back in June. Starliner landed on autopilot six hours after departing the orbiting lab.
