REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) — There may be no place like home but President Joe Biden says his is off-limits. Unprompted, Biden approached reporters Sunday in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, to say he was not on vacation. He says the U.S. Secret Service has been doing work on his longtime primary residence in Wilmington, Delaware, to make it more secure. It’s been months since he’s spent a night there. Biden arrived at his home on the Delaware coast on Saturday night from Florida after he surveyed hurricane damage. He told reporters he’s not on vacation and is in Rehoboth Beach because “I can’t go home-home.”

BLACK ROCK DESERT, Nev. (AP) — An unusual late-summer storm turned a week-long counterculture fest into a sloppy mess, with tens of thousands of partygoers stuck in foot-deep mud and with no working toilets in the northern Nevada desert. The gathering in the Black Rock Desert about 110 miles (177 kilometers) north of Reno attracts nearly 80,000 artists, musicians and activists and for a mix of wilderness camping and avant-garde performances. More than a half-inch of rain fell at the festival site on Friday, the National Weather Service in Reno said, with more coming Saturday and Sunday. Organizers closed the festival to vehicles after one death was reported. Officials provided no details of the fatality.

The presidents of Russia and Turkey are meeting on Monday, with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan seeking to persuade Russia to revive an agreement that allowed Ukraine to export grain and other commodities from three Black Sea ports despite the war. Russian President Vladimir Putin in July refused to extend the agreement, which was brokered by Turkey and the United Nations a year earlier. Russia complained that a parallel deal promising to remove obstacles to Russian exports of food and fertilizer hadn’t been honored. The leaders are to meet in the Black Sea city of Sochi, where the Russian president has a residence.

State Senator Camera Bartolotta (R-46) announced $4 million dollars in transportation grants that will aid local projects. Washington County will receive funding for three projects. North Strabane Township will receive $639,641 to widen McDowell Lane to add a two direction bike lane. East Bethlehem Township will receive $777,570 to replace storm sewers along Crawford Road and Strawberry Street. The Donora Lock, LLC will receive $1.6 million to rebuild the dock wall at the Donora River Terminal.Greene County will receive $1 million to replace the structurally deficient bridge number 7 in Perry Township. The grants were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority through its Multimodal Transportation Fund Program.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced several road work projects that they want to alert motorists to. On Route 50/Washington Avenue in Carnegie, concrete patching, sawcutting, joint sealing and other construction activities will require single lane alternating traffic patterns between Boden Avenue and Lincoln Avenue and between Academy Street and East Main Street. Those activities will begin on Wednesday Sept. 6 and run through Monday Sept. 11. Additionally, a daylight lane restriction will occur on the Thornburg Bridge in Crafton. The intermittent restriction will be at the Rt. 60/Ingram Avenue/Woodmere Avenue intersection on weekdays from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm through Sept. 15. In addition, concrete work will occur on Sept. 5 and 6 at the southern approach to the bridge. Motorists can monitor construction conditions at www.511PA.com.

WHARTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two people were killed and seven were injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Fayette County on Sunday morning. According to Fayette EMS, the crash happened at the intersection of Route 40 and Hawes Road in Wharton Township. When first responders arrived at the scene, one person was already dead and another person died while being transported to an area hospital. The crash happened near Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. There is now word on the identities of the victims at this time. The cause of the accident is under investigation of the Pennsylvania State Police. (PHOTO: WPXI)

Two men were arrested Friday after a report of shots fired in Peters Township. Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Thomas Road for the incident. As officers checked the area they encountered two men in possession of a handgun. After a brief struggle with officers both males were taken into custody. The official investigation disclosed the men fired multiple rounds from their vehicle as they traveled on Thomas Road. Police are asking residents who live on or near Thomas Road between Concord Drive and Lampliter lane to check the exterior of their homes and property for damage as a result of this incident. Officials say to contact the police department if you have any additional information regarding this incident.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are criticizing the school’s response to a campus shooting that killed a faculty member. Some described having to shelter in unlocked rooms while officers looked for an active shooter. Hundreds of students were released from buildings with no clear directions before an “all clear” message was sent in a mass electronic alert. Students such as senior Micah Baldonado have demanded better communication during campus emergencies. But UNC Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz says the university’s emergency protocols worked as planned.
