UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The original Elrama Tavern sign was stolen, just days after a fire destroyed the business. In a Facebook post, the tavern said it appears that through the night, someone sawed off the sign and removed it from the property. The tavern was in business for 70 years before the fire. Elrama Tavern posted to Facebook in hopes of finding the person who has the sign, saying: “This has hit ALL of us pretty hard. We were so delighted to have our sign standing tall amongst the rubble, and now our hearts are broken once more.” At last check, the fire marshal is still investigating to figure out the exact cause of the fire. A GoFundMe has been put together to raise funds to rebuild the tavern.

(WPXI) – The woman who police say kidnapped and killed 2-year-old Nalani Johnson pleaded guilty Friday. Sharena Nancy pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and kidnapping. She has been sentenced to 15 to 30 years in prison. Police say Nancy killed Johnson and abandoned her body in a park in Indiana County back in August 2019. Nancy had apparently been dating the little girl’s father, and abducted her following an argument.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Conor Lamb is accusing rival John Fetterman in Pennsylvania’s Democratic primary for U.S. Senate of skipping candidate forums to avoid talking about a 2013 incident in which he confronted a Black man, shotgun in hand, because he suspected the man was involved in gunfire nearby. The accusation marks a sharp escalation in tone between candidates vying for the Democratic nomination for a critical Senate seat in the May 17 primary. The man Fetterman confronted in 2013 was unarmed and said he was out jogging when Fetterman drove up and pointed a shotgun at him. KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is warning his people that retreating Russian forces are creating “a complete disaster” outside the capital as they leave behind many mines, even around homes and corpses. He issued the warning early Saturday as the humanitarian crisis in the encircled city of Mariupol deepened, with Russian forces blocking evacuation operations for the second day in a row. Meanwhile, the Kremlin accused the Ukrainians of launching a helicopter attack on a fuel depot on Russian soil. Ukraine denied responsibility for the fiery blast. But if Moscow’s claim is confirmed, it would be the war’s first known attack in which Ukrainian aircraft penetrated Russian airspace.

ATLANTA (AP) – U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has filed a lawsuit challenging a state law that a group of voters is using to challenge her eligibility to run for reelection. The challenge filed last month with the Georgia secretary of state’s office alleges that Greene helped facilitate the Jan. 6, 2021 riot that disrupted Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s presidential election victory. That violates a provision of the 14th Amendment and makes her ineligible to run for reelection, the challenge says. Greene filed a lawsuit Friday asking a judge to declare that the law that the voters are using to challenge her eligibility is itself unconstitutional and to prohibit state officials from enforcing it.

WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) – A Connecticut judge has rejected Infowars host Alex Jones’ bid to avoid escalating daily fines for missing a deposition in a lawsuit by relatives of some victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Judge Barbara Bellis on Friday turned down Jones’ request to put a hold on the fines while he appeals them. The judge found Jones in contempt of court orders to attend a deposition last week in Austin, Texas, and said there wasn’t enough evidence he was too ill to attend as he said. The Sandy Hook families are suing Jones for calling the 2012 shooting that killed 20 children and six educators a hoax.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Will Smith resigned Friday from the motion picture academy following his Oscars night slap of Chris Rock and said he would accept any further punishment the organization imposed. Smith’s resignation came two days after the academy met to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Smith for violations against the group’s standards of conduct. Film Academy President David Rubin says Smith’s resignation has been accepted and disciplinary proceedings will continue. On Sunday, Smith strode from his front-row Dolby Theatre seat on to the stage and smacked Rock, who had made a joke at the expense of Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

(WPXI) – Two children were stabbed in Pittsburgh’s Crawford-Roberts neighborhood Friday morning. Police said a man showed up at the Zone 2 police station along Centre Avenue before 7 a.m. with his 3-year-old son who was stabbed. That child was then taken to a hospital. Police said the father and police officers returned to a home in the 200 block of Dinwiddie Street, where a 7-year-old boy was also stabbed. Medics transported that child to the hospital, as well. Both children are in stable condition. Pittsburgh police said there was also a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old inside the home. They did not have any apparent injuries, police said, but were taken to a hospital as a precaution. Police said there is no threat to the public, and that everyone involved is in police custody and are being being interviewed.

District 12 of PennDot held a press conference to announce construction projects that will be taken on in 2022. Several projects are already underway and several more will be taking place. The reconstruction of Rt. 18 near Wylie Avenue will continue this year between Wylie Avenue and the I-70 eastbound ramps. That work will begin on April 6 and require a detour until June 16. The detour will take northbound motorists onto I-70 east to Murtland Avenue onto Rt. 19 north to I-70 west and back onto Rt. 18 from the Jefferson Avenue exit. A bridge replacement over I-70 near Speers will begin on April 4 and detours will be in place until the project is complete at the end of October. The reconstruction of the I-70 and PA 51 interchange will continue this year with a completion date of 2027. A traffic circle will go out to bid for the intersection of Valleybrook Road and Bebout Road in Peters Township. That bid will be issued in October with the project to be started and completed in 2023. Information on these and all other projects can be found on the PennDot website at www.PennDot.gov

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) – COVID-19 hospitalization numbers have plunged to their lowest levels since the early days of the pandemic, offering a much needed break to health care workers and patients alike following the omicron surge. The number of patients hospitalized with the coronavirus has fallen more than 90% in more than two months, and some hospitals are going days without a single COVID-19 patient in the ICU for the first time since early 2020. The freed up beds are expected to help U.S. hospitals retain exhausted staff, treat non-COVID-19 patients more quickly and cut down on inflated costs. More family members can visit loved ones. And doctors hope to see a correction to the slide in pediatric visits, yearly checkups and cancer screenings.
