Judge Dismisses PFA Against Lt. Governor Candidate

May 6, 2022 2:52 pm

HONESDALE, Pa. (AP) – A judge has dismissed a temporary protective order against a candidate for Pennsylvania lieutenant governor after his attorneys attacked the motivation and credibility of the candidate’s wife. Teddy Daniels claimed vindication after the ruling by President Judge Janine Edwards, telling reporters outside the Wayne County Courthouse, “Justice was served.” His wife had testified that Daniels was verbally abusive and made threats. Daniels’ wife had obtained a temporary protection-from-abuse order against him last week. Daniels denied the allegations. He claims he was the target of “political terrorism” meant to damage his campaign.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Can Run For Re-Election

May 6, 2022 2:47 pm

ATLANTA (AP) – Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has accepted a judge’s findings and says U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is qualified to run for reelection. Earlier Friday, a judge concluded that a group of voters who had challenged her eligibility failed to prove she engaged in insurrection after taking office. State Administrative Law Judge Charles Beaudrot announced his decision after a daylong hearing in April that included arguments from lawyers for the voters and for Greene, as well as extensive questioning of Greene herself. State law says Beaudrot had to submit his findings to Raffensperger, who then had to decide whether to accept that conclusion.

428K Jobs Added In April Despite Surging Inflation

May 6, 2022 8:42 am

WASHINGTON (AP) – America’s employers added 428,000 jobs in April, extending a streak of solid hiring that has defied punishing inflation, chronic supply shortages, the Russian war against Ukraine and much higher borrowing costs. Friday’s jobs report from the Labor Department showed that last month’s hiring kept the unemployment rate at 3.6%, just above the lowest level in a half-century. The economy’s hiring gains have been remarkably consistent in the face of the worst inflation in four decades. Employers have added at least 400,000 jobs for 12 straight months. Yet it’s unclear how long the jobs boom will continue.

U.S. Gave Intel Before Ukraine Sank Russian Warship

May 6, 2022 4:17 am

WASHINGTON (AP) – The U.S. says it shared intelligence with Ukraine about the location of the Russian missile cruiser Moskva prior to the strike that sank the warship. The incident was a high-profile failure for Russia’s military. An American official said Thursday that Ukraine alone decided to target and sink the flagship of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet using its own anti-ship missiles. The official says that given Russia’s attacks on the Ukrainian coastline from the sea, the U.S. has provided “a range of intelligence” that includes locations of those ships. NBC News first reported the U.S. role in the sinking of the ship.

Defenders In Ukrainian Steel Mill Refuse To Surrender

May 6, 2022 4:15 am

LVIV, Ukraine (AP) – Ukrainian fighters battling Russian forces in the tunnels beneath Mariupol’s immense steel plant are refusing to surrender in the face of relentless attacks. The wife of one commander says they vowed to “stand till the end.” The battle is unfolding in the last Ukrainian stronghold of the strategic port city that has been reduced to ruins. It appeared increasingly desperate after an Ukrainian official said Russian soldiers managed to get inside the tunnels with the help of an Ukrainian electrician who knew the layout. The fighting came amid growing suspicions that President Vladimir Putin wants to present the Russian people with a major battlefield success in time for Victory Day on Monday, which marks the Soviet Union’s triumph over Nazi Germany.

They departed the orbiting lab Thursday, after spending nearly a week with their replacements. Their mission was highlighted by NASA’s first paying guests, three millionaires who visited last month. SpaceX handled everyone’s travel.

FDA Restricts J&J’s COVID Vaccine Due To Clot Risk

May 6, 2022 4:12 am

WASHINGTON (AP) – U.S. regulators are strictly limiting who can receive Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine due to a rare but serious risk of blood clots. The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday the shot should only be given to adults who cannot receive a different vaccine or specifically request J&J’s vaccine. The decision is the latest restriction to hit the company’s vaccine, which has long been overshadowed in the U.S. by the more effective shots from Pfizer and Moderna. In December, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended using the Moderna and Pfizer shots over J&J’s because of its safety issues.

Peters Township Mother Seriously Injured

May 6, 2022 4:10 am

PETERS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — (WPXI) – Tuesday morning started like every other day for Ashley Cramer McClintock and her three children. As she was getting them packed in her SUV in her parents’ Peters Township driveway and ready for school, things took a terrifying turn. “One of the kids forgot her backpack, and she was running into get it. She said she put the vehicle in park, and when she got out, she noticed the vehicle started to roll down the driveway,” Jordan Cramer, Ashley’s brother, told Channel 11. Ashley was able to stick her arm inside her SUV to turn the steering wheel. “She talked through her thought process, and that was her primary concern, the kids in the car, and potentially the kids that might be walking to school on the street below,” he added. Somehow, Ashley got pulled underneath the SUV. Ashley’s kids saw it happen. “They’re going through a lot. I talked to them the other night, and just talked to them about Ashley’s condition, and what she did to essentially save them, and make sure they were OK,” he said. After Peters Township firefighters arrived at the scene, they decided Ashley needed to be life-flighted to Allegheny General Hospital. She has since undergone surgeries, and has a long road to recovery. Ashley is a single mom, and owns a local spa. But because of her injuries, she won’t be walking for months, let alone able to work. A GoFundMe was made for her to help with expenses.
