Family Of Missing Greene County Man Asking For Help

May 22, 2023 8:21 am

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — (WPXI) – It has been several days since Shane Phillips, 65, went missing in Greene County. Phillips went to the Wisecarver Reservoir to go fishing, a hobby he enjoys often, but never came home. State Police held searches, but nothing turned up. Now, his family is pleading with the public for help. “To not know where our father is, is just surreal,” said Shane’s daughter, Rebecca Phillips. Phillips is a Greene County native and has lived in the area his entire life. His family says he would know the land forward and backward. The fisherman was officially reported missing after his wife became alarmed when nighttime fell and he still was not home. She went to the reservoir and found his red F-150 parked at the landing where it always is, but Phillips was nowhere to be found. His family said his yellow kayak was found in the water. All of Phillips’ belongings were intact, including his wallet. Since no other official searches are currently planned, the family is organizing their own searches. State police say they are checking for surveillance video. Anyone with information about Shane Phillips is asked to contact State Police in Waynesburg at 724-627-6151.

Russia Claims Control Of Bakhmut

May 22, 2023 4:09 am

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia claims it has won control of Ukraine’s eastern city of Bakhmut after a grinding nine-month conflict in which tens of thousands of fighters have died. But top Ukrainian military leaders say the battle is not over. Ukrainian officials acknowledge they now control only a small part of Bakhmut but say their fighters’ presence has played a key role in their strategy of exhausting the Russian military. And they say their current positions in surrounding areas will let them strike back inside Bakhmut while Ukrainian forces are making significant advances just outside the 400-year-old city, chipping away at Russia’s northern and southern flanks with the aim of encircling Russian fighters inside.

Pivotal Meeting Set Over Debt Ceiling Impasse

May 22, 2023 4:08 am

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy have a pivotal meeting coming up on the impasse over the debt ceiling. Washington is racing to strike a budget compromise and raise the nation’s borrowing limit in time to avert a devastating federal default. They’re to meet face to face Monday afternoon. After a weekend of start-stop talks, both men appeared upbeat as they face a deadline, as soon as June 1, when the government could run out of cash to pay its bills. Back in the U.S. after the G-7 summit, Biden said his phone call with McCarthy earlier Sunday went well.

Fetterman Tackles Senate Life After Depression Treatment

May 22, 2023 4:06 am

WASHINGTON (AP) — Before Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman checked himself in to a hospital for clinical depression in February, he used to walk the halls of the Senate stone-faced and dressed in formal suits. These days, he’s back to wearing the hoodies and gym shorts he was known for before he became a senator. People close to Fetterman say his more relaxed style is a reflection of the progress he’s made after six weeks of inpatient treatment for clinical depression. He was treated with medication and fitted for hearing aids for hearing loss that had made it harder for him to communicate. His hospitalization came less than a year after he had a stroke during his Senate campaign.

Woman Charged After Chase With Baby Inside Vehicle

May 22, 2023 4:03 am

LOWER TYRONE TWP, Pa. — (WPXI) – A woman is facing charges after police say she led them on a chase while she had a baby in her vehicle in Fayette County. Pennsylvania state police say they were called to check on a woman who appeared to be passed out or sleeping in her vehicle while in the care of a 6-month-old child. When they arrived they found 31-year-old Nichole Snyder, who took off in her vehicle. Troopers say they tried to stop Snyder without a pursuit for an hour and a half before deeming her a danger to herself, the child and the general public. Eventually, troopers used tire deflation devices to slow the vehicle down and say a “precision immobilization technique” was used to stop it completely. Snyder faces charges of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, multiple charges of recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of a child.

DeSantis Asks Judge Be Disqualified From Disney Lawsuit

May 21, 2023 8:05 am

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Gov. Ron DeSantis is asking that a federal judge be disqualified from the First Amendment lawsuit filed by Disney against the Florida governor and his appointees. The DeSantis motion filed Friday claims U.S. District Judge Mark Walker’s prior statements have raised questions about his impartiality on the state’s efforts to take over Disney World’s governing body. Disney’s lawsuit alleges the Republican governor and his appointees violated the company’s right to free speech, as well as the contracts clause, by taking over the special governing district that previously had been controlled by Disney supporters. Walker was nominated to the federal bench in 2012 by President Barack Obama.
