A Boil water advisory continues for some 95,000 customers in Washington and Allegheny Counties. Pennsylvania American Water says “we received the first round of water quality test results, and all samples came back negative for bacterial contamination. One additional round of samples must also come back negative before the boil water advisory can be lifted, as required by regulations. We have collected the second set of samples and will provide another update late tomorrow morning. Crews now anticipate completing repairs to the water main break in Elrama this evening. All customers should continue to boil water for one minute before using or use bottled water until further notice. Thank you for your patience.” According to company officials, a power surge early Saturday morning caused a depletion of storage at a tank near the Aldrich Water Treatment Plant in Elrama. The company says a loss of positive pressure within the distribution system signals the existence of conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system. While under this advisory, all water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least a minute, then cooled, before using. Pennsylvania American Water says impacted customers should use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice.
