KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine has killed rescuers in Kharkiv and wounded at least 30 people in the capital Kyiv. Strikes on Monday set apartment buildings ablaze and sparked a fire at one of the country’s significant religious landmarks. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko says the rescuers have been killed in a second strike while fighting a blaze caused by an earlier attack. Many people in Kyiv sought shelter underground and officials urged residents to take cover. Officials says damage at the historic monastic complex of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was substantial with a serious fire breaking out.
